House cleaning

I recently did a remodel and there is dust everywhere. SO I’m treating myself by having someone come in and deep clean my house. Never had it done before. Feels weird not to be helping. I could get use to this. 🤣

Right now a handyman is in our kitchen putting in a new counter and sink. Next week he will remove some carpeting in our hall and replace it with laminate. Unfortunately, I'll be doing the clean up.

We built a new home two years ago and the contractor hired a cleaning company that specialized in cleaning newly built homes and condos since there was construcion ****** all of the place.

Before we sold our other home, we hired profession cleaners to get our place in perfect ready to sell condition.

Wish I could afford to hire cleaners but my DH and I clean

We’re empty nesters now so we clean as well. But I had 4 daughters and they all learned to clean!

Remodeling is such a messy business!

When I'm having work done, I try to anticipate what all will be affected, and remove as much stuff to other rooms, cover furniture with sheets or new tarps, shut the doors to rooms in other places in the house (as dust really travels!) and even hang plastic in big open entry/doorways that don't have doors.

A little pre planning will make it easier to clean up, and not get everything dirty.

Nice idea to have someone come in and do the initial clean up. Be sure to supervise or plan on getting in the cracks and crevices, nooks and crannies after they leave, because I've never seen professional cleaners that get as 'down and dirty' as I can!

@mare54 Good for you !! I fully support spoiling ourselves as we can afford it. We have a really large yard and my dh recently said he wanted to hire the mowing done. So, we do. We don't want to move and decided many years ago that as we aged we would hire some of our work out. Go for it, girl !!

@pattypeep that is one thing we do too! Again when our girls were home, they did yard work with their dad. We live in a fairly well do to suburb of Houston. Most people have their yards done by professionals. When our daughters friends found out they did yard work, they couldn’t believe it. A few of them still love to do it now that they have homes of their own. Doing yard work in Texas heat in the summer is brutal! We’re too old for it. Haha. I will do my own housework however.

@Mominohio I thought my contractor would do that, he didn’t. I had dust everywhere. He said he would clean it, but there were other issues so I was just glad to get it done. We just updated one of our bathrooms.

When our builder finished our home he had his mom and some other ladies come in and clean. I felt bad that he had what I would call older ladies doing the cleaning instead of hiring a professional cleaning crew, since our home is fairly large. They didn’t do a great job and we felt the need to clean again, which I would do anyway. But the walls were still somewhat dusty and I didn’t appreciate that. But I wasn’t going to say anything.

Contractors always say they will clean up after themselves but they rarely do.You really have to keep after them, and it should be in their contract - make sure it is.

Just went through new drywall being put up. White dust everywhere. Cleaned that up.

Now we're getting ready to have the new hardwoods that were just installed---sanded. UGH!

The house is empty, except one ceiling fan an electrician put up. I want to pitch it now!

I bought wide dry floor mops and a dozen replacement mopheads. I'm going to literally dry mop the walls after all is said and done.

DH and I are planning on painting the walls after the hardwoods are done. They're primed and have a basecoat of the colors I chose. So this will be the second coat.

I don't think anyone could clean a house (even an empty one) to my liking.

We are in process of buying a new home that is still under construction. What a mess it is over there! Every day some worker is in there doing something.I can hardly wait to see it all finished and cleaned up.

@pattypeep, this was the first year that we had our college-age neighbor take care of our lawn and he did a great job. It started out as doing the yard work while we were on vacation, and DH liked having the free time so much that we continued with our neighbor. It was wonderful and well worth the money. I just hope that he wants to do it next summer since he will be graduating.

The builder of our new house is supposed to go in and clean late next week when they are finished. My sister laughed and said it won’t be as good as we want. My mom said next weekend she will go over and do it better. She goes I am not bringing all my stuff in if it’s still dusty. We will see how good they clean next week. I can imagine for awhile it’s going to be really dusty with all the stuff coming through the vents.

After speaking to friends who have completed their renovations, I called the cleaning services they used. It's a flat fee of $150 for 6 hours (4 ladies). That's fine with me! (Although I may get spoiled and hire them 1x/month - plus I'm not getting up on a ladder to do the "pot shelves").

They tell me the dust is unbelievable when they chop up the tile floors & demo. Next is my guest bathroom. These are both the start of the project. I don't know if I'll have them before or after the painting the whole house.

We bought thick sheets of blue furnace filter pad material, and cut it up in big pieces and shoved it into the vents and intakes.

I didn't want my new a/c, furnace and ductwork getting filled with soot.

Did that Day 1.

@homedecor1 Wow! What a deal! I can't believe you can get four people to clean for $25 an hour.
