On 2/5/2014 PKB said: So, let's see pictures of your bathrooms. Might prove interesting ;-)

Yeah, I'm curious, too, as to what IS "in vogue" and will not scare off any house guests that may need to use my facilities.

Anyway, I'm genuinely curious for those who dislike the "framed" curtains - what do you use? A glass tub enclosure? A curtain pulled across to hide the tub? Or a curtain pulled tightly to one side, leaving the tub open to view?

ETA: My guest bath's only window is frosted and centered over the tub. I dislike shower doors (because of our hard water) and "frame" it to let in natural light. Curtains (dry clean only) are removed several times a year and freshened with Dryel, along with the plastic inner curtain replaced before showering guests arrive (maybe once a year or so).

Went to a neighbor's house today for a HOA committee meeting. I have never been in her home before. Used the guest bath which was a full bath. She had two separate fabric panels using tie backs to keep them open on either end of the tub. I haven't seen this look in a while and never did understand it. Would someone explain why I want to look into someone's bathtub like I would look out a window???

I've seen this, but never used the idea, and know no one who uses it.

It's funny you post this, though, because a week or so ago my husband and I went to investigate different new adult community housing. There were many models in the two communities we went to. They were free standing, two level units which were pretty large, and fairly elaborate, and decorated.

The larger bathrooms all had glass shower enclosures, but there were a few bathrooms that were the older style, with a traditional tub and these did have that double sided shower curtain set-up, done by whoever decorates these things. Maybe it's an old idea that is being brought back?

I don't know, I always just put one shower curtain up, and kept it pushed to the side.

Just kidding.

Another thing I noticed was that the floor plans situated the dining areas (which usually incorporated a sitting area too) as the first major room when you walked into the home. The was always a big open kitchen with a family room or great room, whatever you want to call it as well. But I just found it odd that a dining room was the first room you came upon after entering the homes. Most of them had this floor plan, so I'm assuming this is the way they are designing these places now.

Other aspects of the decorative staging seemed pretty up-to-date, the neutral colors on the walls, lots of deep tans and grays, etc, the very open modern kitchens and most of the baths.

It's just a look or style that some like to soften the appearance of a bathroom. If the bathroom is large, some will even have a small upholstered piece in it. Or an upholstered fauteuil. It can also be a way to integrate the bathroom with the adjoining bedroom by using some of the same fabrics/finishes. Treatments can be applied to fabrics for use in the bathroom to make them suitable for that end use.

Sounds like it's mostly a guest bath and the bath tub/shower doesn't get used much, so it's for pure decoration. Besides, if the curtains were closed, wouldn't you wonder if someone was lurking in there? *cue the creepy Psycho music*

If your house is on the market....you "may" want to do some updates in decorating styles, but if a homeowner has no plans to sell, and are happy with their own style....what does it matter what anyone else thinks? The shower curtain style is what is pleasing to the people who live in the house.

My guest bath is a full bath with a tub. I found a gorgeous pinstripe material with thin stripes of deep gold, deep red, black and cream. found a coordinating floral fabric with s floral print with the same colors. had a custom shower curtain made that goes 9 feet ceiling to floor with the floral valance over it that is 18 inches long. However, I keep it closed so that my shower curtain and valence are really shown. Wallpaper is the dark red with a subtle gold fleur de lys pattern. My tub is never used so it is in mint condition but I still don't like the idea of guests peeking into it.
