On 2/5/2014 mistriTsquirrel said:
Looking to make bunk-beds for your cats?

...and I'd would display it proudly! Our cats would love this!

Has anyone made or had someone make a t-shirt quilt? They're popular with high school and college kids- boys and girls. I had saved (sentimental reasons) a lot of our kids t-shirts while they grew up, and put a quilt together for our oldest son. He really loved it, brought back memories for him. I'm trying to find/collect a bunch of shirts to make one for our youngest. I found a shirt from LEGOLAND that he had from years ago and mentioned to him that I needed to find a few more shirts to start his quilt. I thought my 21 year old was going to cry- he assumed I wasn't going to make one for him. Didn't know it meant that much to him!

Mistri, do your parents have a shuttle service in their area? Ours here is called SARTA , we also have Koala Cruisers who will pick up and drop off kids and/or seniors for appointments for a nominal fee. There is also a company that uses a van that is equipped for the disabled that transports but they are more expensive to use. Maybe you can check to see if there is something like these. Much better than a city bus or cab, and safer. My elderly neighbor used SARTA for times I wasn't available to take him to appointments.

Best wishes to your family- Hopefully your brother will be able to get a few things done around the house that needs taken care of! There's always something that needs fixed or unclogged. That will keep him busy!

No. I might occasionally repaint or refinish a piece of furniture, but I'm not 'craft-sy' so don't often use one thing to make something else... Just not part of my DNA. I'd have to say that unless done very well, I personally think most re-purposed stuff is, well, not always that appealing.

I love the bookcase made of shutters. That is a great idea!

I do have difficulty throwing things out when I see another potential use for them. Not so much the plastic bottles, etc., but lamp parts off a broken lamp, or spindles off an old broken headboard, old wooden picture frames, etc. I don't usually get very far with "creating" things from my ideas, though.

I am another person who is not into the turning old bottles or cans into crafts thing. But i do love to take a piece of used and abused furniture and restore it to something beautiful. I am also not into leaving old finishes on antiques so they look ""shabby chic"" I love to strip off the weathered finish and restore it to look like it did when it was new.I have some very beautiful antiques in my home as a result of years of having a passion for doing this.

I love to do this. It comes second nature to me. I'm always thinking of new ways to use things. When I was younger, I used sheets for drapes. I love repainting furniture. I see things in the forms of household items and turn them into home decor. I just do it if I get an idea. I've made vanity trays out of framed mirrors and a work area using a door and file cabinets. I use liter soda bottles as mini greenhouses for seedlings. I also use styrofoam egg crates to start seedlings.
