Keyless Door Entry

We have one and absolutely love it. You can open the door remotely too so when loved ones come and set when they leave.

@Hoovermom...there are several styles....did you buy new door handles with the keyless entry attached or the door knobs with the pad on the front of the knob? Can I ask what brand you purchased? Thanks

Many years ago we replaced the front door lock to our home with a push button lock because DH wouldn't carry a key and whenever the electric would be off he was locked out, because he always used the garage door opener.

That keyless lock worked perfectly for him - he was never locked out again. When it needs batteries it beeps softly to tell you to replace batteries.

When we sold the house the buyers didn't want to be bothered with it so we brought it to our new house and put the original lock back on at the old house.

@Desertdi...my husband's car is keyless..drives me nuts, I won't drive it.

One of the reasons I'm hanging onto my older car is that it still uses a key. I absolutely hate keyless ignition. I do like keyless entry on my car. I can use that if I need to get something out of my car and don't have keys handy. I had keyless ignition on a loaner car once and I hates it. I was always afraid I would forget to turn it off.

@Krimpette...funny you should mention not shutting it off..my girlfriend drives a $40,000+ car....all the bells and whistles on it. She drove to the store, got out, did her shopping came back to the car and thought, i'ts cool in the car (she was in Florida)....it dawned on her she left the car running while she shopped.

That was one thing she shared with me not her husband, he would have been furious with her....although it has an auto shut down and no one could have driven off with it, as she had the key with her....he still would have been angry.

I thought if you opened the door while the car was running it would beep. I love my keyless car. I can keep my keys zipped up and never think about them.

We used to have a car with keyless ignition and my DH went out to breakfast with some fishing buddies and they ALL got out of the car & walked into the restaurant leaving the car running. You'd think one of them would have noticed. When they went back to the car after they ate , they said Hey - the car is running. My DH said he felt like a fool.

Ours didn't - but if you left it running and tried to lock it - it would not lock.

This is a really stupid question. Do you have to lock the door as you leave with a key, or does the keyless entry lock the door, too? This might be something I would like for the door to the garage from the house. I do carry my key but don't like to get it out when I don't use it for the car.

@NickNack The way my keyless entry works is that I open the door to get out, but lock it from the inside before closing the door. My keyless entry has a keypad on the outside and you can lock it from that also. Not sure that feature is available any more, but it sure is handy!

Thanks @Krimpette. The ones I was looking at have a deadbolt, so you wouldn't be able to lock them from the inside before closing the door.

@Krimpette Now I'm confused. Are you talking about a keyless entry to your car or your house? I was talking about to the house.

In my previous home I had installed a lock on the front door that uses either a key or a combination. I believe it was a Kwikset lock. It worked great to provide cleaning services and other contractors a combination to the lock to get in without passing out my house keys. I had the option to set as many as 8 different combinations to open the door.

I moved recently and just installed a similar lock on the front door to my new home.

I liked using it becuase I can go out for a walk in the evenings without having to carry keys.

@LilLadyNJ....did you have to buy a whole new door knob set or was the keyless lock separate from the door knob? I am not sure which is better... we are not in need of using this with a smart phone.
