That's the problem with a company, such as the one that makes the Shark products. They are not in it for the long-term and you end up having to spend the money anyway.

I have some Dysons and they have been excellent. Not only that, but the company's customer service has been well above and beyond.

My oldest one must be near 15 years old by now and still works well. None of mine are less than several years old and still work great.

I had the cleaning lady using my oldest one and, when it was 12 years old, she (she's VERY hard on things!) did something to tear the hose. I contacted Dyson to see if I could purchase that part to fix it. The reason for it, even though I have more, newer units is because she was so hard on things that I didn't want her using my newer ones.

Anyway, the guy said 'no problem I'll send you the part'. He wouldn't sell it to me, he just sent it to me free of charge. That vacuum was well out of warranty, so he didn't need to do that, especially as I initially asked to purchase the part.

I have other stories of Dyson customer service. I could not be more pleased with the products or the customer service.

I also have a couple of their fans which I really love.

Anyway, that's my story, FWIW.

First, let me say I am not knocking Shark vacs. I have had multiple shark vacuums over the years. Have given my momma 2 Sharks. I do think its a good brand.

Its just that in my case, after 2 or 3 years, they seem to not do as good of a job.

I have carpet, tile and laminate and three dogs.

Those of you who have Dysons, do they work well for you after the three year mark?

Or is there another brand that does well?

I have heard of the miele brand, don't think anywhere close to me sells those.

I have read some of the Dyson reviews on here. Lordy.

I just want something who will work well and not need replaced in 3 years or so.

TIA

I think Miele vacuum cleaners are wonderful. I am on my second one. I had my first one for at least 25 years and never had a single problem with it. It still works well, but I messed up the floor cleaning tool by running it over something sticky. I decided not to order another tool since it was older and just ordered a new one. I highly recommend Miele.

I think you can look on Miele's website to see who carries them in your area. If not, you can read detailed descriptions about the various ones on several websites and order with free shipping. The local store didn't carry the one that I wanted, so I ordered it.

I own two identical Shark Lift-Aways. My older one seemed to not be picking up stuff like it used to so I compared the two identical models, one older and one newer, to see if I could see any differences. The biggest difference that I could see was the brushroll on the older one had significantly worn bristles. This would account for it's lack of picking up stuff. My older Shark works great otherwise. I ended up buying a replacement brushroll from Shark and it's like new again.

I purchased a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser & LOVE it (I got the more expensive model).

I have a Golden Retriever + cats, & this does an excellent job. When I had my last vacuum fixed I asked the repairman about different brands. He said DO NOT buy a Dyson....their store was always filled with Dyson needing repairs (their #! repair).

Also, I called Bissell once about the machine, & they were VERY nice & helpful. I'd buy another one of these. Btw, I've had mine about 1-1/2 years.

I keep my Dyson cleaned out regularly. You can take it apart and wash it to really get rid of the dust and dirt. I let it air dry with a fan. This really helps to maintain it.

I have two Dysons. The one I like the best is an upright animal. It really cleans. It even pulls all the dirt up through the wall to wall carpet very well. I found this out when we ripped up the old carpet and it was clean over and under the padding. The only thing I don’t like is the weight of it. It’s heavy to carry up and down the stairs.

My second one is a canister model. It is so so. I put that one in our RV. I would never buy another canister model Dyson. It cleans, but is not worth the money like my upright model. I have a $60 shark upright that cleans better than the Dyson Canister.

@NickNack- I have two Sharks (one older and one of the newer Duo Clean models). I use the older one downstairs and vacuum up kittly litter all the time. It hasn't hurt my Shark at all. I make sure to remove and rinse out the filter every few months (as per the instructions).

I currently have carpets, but we've going to install wood flooring at some point in the future; that's why I bought the Duo Clean.

I have the very expensive Dyson Animal prior to buying the first Shark. After a couple of months, I gave away the Dyson and would never go back. JMHO. I have four cats and the Shark copes well and is so much easier to use.

(FYI: Watch some of the demonstrations and see what they show these vacuums picking up. Kitty litter shouldn't hurt it at all.)

I understand Shark vacuums are made to not be repaired; they must be replaced. I don't like that concept. I've got 4 Dysons, none of which have ever needed any repair but I like to know they can be fixed.

Shark's website sells parts and I have bought and repaired my older one. Most anything can be repaired. You just have to know how to do it.

And my Sharks both have seven-year warranties on them, which is at least two years longer than the one I had on my top of the line Dyson (which ended up needing two repairs before I gave it away).

Dyson parts are also mega-expensive, as I found out.

Everyone has his or her own personal favorites and that's fine, but it's not true that Sharks can't be repaired.
