I used to decorate with lots of color for the holidays and then changed to mostly neutral for several years.

Now, I find that I am drawn to more color again.....mostly red in accents like pillows and throws.

Do you change your holiday color scheme from year to year or basically stay with the same color scheme?

Big LR tree is predominantly red and apple green. Adding a flocked tree in the FR this year: will be silver and gold. Have not decided on the DR yet. Not planning to decorate much more than that for this year.

I lean toward the ivories and metallics like bronze, silver and gold. If I use green and red, I go for burgundies and hunter greens. I do not care for bright green and bright red.

I never change my color scheme for Christmas...it's Christmas red, Christmas green, gold, silver, maybe a bit of blue--whatever colors are in the ornaments I've collected over the 42 years I've been married. I do one tree, in the living room (we don't have separarte living/family rooms) and it's a wonderful jumble of all kinds of ornaments! No "theme" whatsoever.

Entry way I have a white tree so I do white around the front door and banister area. Moving into the living room and dining room I do red and gold. In the kitchen I do ginger bread theme so it green and reds. Down in the family room it more of a cabin look a tree with all the ornaments the kid made in school and neighbors made and such . The bathroom is all snowmen so it all colors. I've been married 44 years and to change now would be to much money and work.

Years ago I was Holiday decorating with a lot of color then we moved to a home in a coastal area on the water. I changed to muted colors because it just goes with the beach area and my current decor. However I do find myself adding a few colorful pieces in here and there.

Those have always been the "colors of Christmas" to me. Flocked and/or white trees are beautiful, but since my walls are off-white, I think it would just disappear! The Charlie Brown tree sound cute...that is just about my favorite animated Christmas program. Even now, in our 60's, DH & I look forward to watching it every year!

Like most folks, I don't redecorate every year and couldn't even if I wanted to, but I do tend to pick different accent colors and 'themes' each year. I have enough stash accumulated that I can pick and choose colors and 'themes' to highlight that suit me any given year. Often, I'll plan something and sometimes I stick to the plan, but more often something just evolves as I'm working on the decorations. I will say, I don't do nearly the holiday decorating I once did. I now find a little goes a long way...

I always have a white and gold theme in the living room, entry and dining room. In the family room I do multi color and family decorations collected over the years.

i vary it slightly because I do multiple trees in the home. It depends on how much time I have and how I feel. I do decorate with a few things in the kitchen and den. The last few years I do a large tree on the front porch and a large lighted display in the back yard. (it can be seen from the main road behind us)

I have always used blues and silvers. I saw many years ago on HGTV several designers were doing homes for Christmas, they all stated many times to pick one or two colors and keep the theme going through the house. I do have blue and white lights on my only tree, with totally random ornaments, they are not all blue.

While I do not necessarily have a theme, I am consistent with my colors.

Merry Christmas to all!!!

I'm a traditionalist. The tree we decide to put up will determine the ornaments. If we put up our fake Frazier Fur, I'll use white lights, and an assortment of gold ornaments. If we put up our silver aluminum tree, we use an old-fashioned color wheel and a mix of gold, green, and red shiny ornaments. Maybe I'm too fussy, but I like the gift wrap to blend too so it's always green, red, gold, and silver metallic, sometimes embossed, and then prints in a holiday plaid or small, tasteful print. I will never ever use magenta, lime green, purple, or turquoise for Christmas decorating.

I have a few kitchen tablecloths to rotate, all in traditional red & green (some with white) plaids. From the day after Thanksgiving until Jan. 30th, we only use Longaberger Traditional Holly dishes and serving pieces.

I've only recently changed my look for Christmas decor, and only recently been able to put the money toward everything being more coordinated in color and style.

In the past, many of my things were very traditional, but vintage with muted colors, and I still have a lot of those things and love them.

What I have done, so as to use the many different things that I love, is to make different rooms, have different colorways and different styles.

The family room is more primitive. That is were you will find the red truck type decor, primitive snow men, and decorative boxes that have the barn wood look etc.

The dining room has gone red and gold and more elegant.

Most of the living room is gold and ivory, again more elegant.

The kitchen, what little I do, swings between vintage vignettes of things I have from my childhood, and my blue saltgalzed Rowe Santas and snowmen.

I have always preferred a deeper, richer tone to holiday decor. More earthy or jewel tones. Never been a fan of bright colors or odd shades for the season.

I do enjoy doing different areas in different ways, so whenever I find something I love, it doesn't have to be overlooked if it doesn't fit the color or the theme. I can usually work it into some area of the house.
