Where do Decorators Get Furniture

Hello QVC Family - I was on a website call Next Door (it is a neigboorhood site) and a few neighboors posted remodels of their homes. The furniture was so spectacular, it looked like what you would see on TV House Wives Show.

My question is does anyone know of online furniture stores that sell really nice things. I know about ballard designs and the "FAMOUS" Z Gallerie. My taste is more on the "Z Gallerie" side.

I have looked in my local furniture stores like marlo, macy's but the furniture and accessories did not HOLD A Candle to the items I saw on the site. Well, all comments are welcome.

Also I dont' have the money for a decorator, so I'm learning on websites, via magazines, and just keeping pictures to try and create it on my own.

Just a few suggestions based on my experience:

Visit the best furniture store in your area. See what brands they carry that appeal to you, Look at the furniture and it's construction- don't freak out over full retail price,.then look up those brands on line. See if you can buy items from reliable retailers in North Carolina.

I found that the best store in my area had sales (usually late winter and late summer) that beat NC prices on some items.

Also, consider hiring a decorator/ designer for a consult. A little money well spent. That's how I found out about a small, local department store that had almost-top-of- the-line furniture at excellent prices.

For case goods (tables, shelves, dining chairs) look into local auction houses, estate sales and garage sales/ moving sales and yes, Craig's List.

@Happiness Is Inside JOB: If you NextDoor site is like mine, people ask all kinds of questions on what they see there. Ask the people who have done these remodels, and I am sure they would be flattered to tell you where the furniture/accessories came from.

This is where I purchased new furniture a few years ago, mainly from Boyles Furniture, there are great deals to be had in High Point. Usually, if you spend enough the shipping is free.

Definitely ask on Nextdoor to get your answers. Also, most of the tv decorating shows seem to use Wayfair. In our area, decorators go to The Dump for many of their needs, but I have no idea how many states this store is in. They have great prices and just about anything that you could need or want for your home decorating.

I just attached a few pictures from the remodel. You see the style is more modern then classical. Z Gallerie dot com has beautiful furniture that fits this style. I'd love to hear your comments.

Since you asked which furniture stores we like, I'll mention that Restoration Hardware is my favorite furniture source. It's not everyone's taste, but I do love most of their things.

On another note, I saw those clear lucite chairs in one of your posts at TJMaxx not long ago.

thank you!!! I am just doing things little by little, I can't pay anyone. I only posted a few of the pictures but the decoratoring company is called dadesignsllc dot com.

if you check out their site, go to the interior section and you will see Before/after pictures.

For me, I can tell the accessories are not cheap and neither is the furniture, it is my taste but I like FLASHY!!!.

It is not furniture for everyone. Thanks for all the comments so far.

@Happiness Is Inside JOB Unfortunately, designers have lots of options not available to the general public... When looking through design magazines, you'll often see the notation 'to the trade'. That usually means the product is only available through a designer... Most major cities have a 'design center' and while some of them are open to the public, many of the 'stores' located in them will only sell through a designer, who will almost always add a mark-up... Sad but true... While there are so many design resources out there, unfortunately, most folks who opt out of the whole 'professional' designer realm are going to have to scour websites and furniture stores for what they're seeking...

HomeGoods is a must for small furniture and accessories. Unusual items, fair prices but not cheap.

StevieB said it well: designers have access to many business that ONLY sell to decorators and not the general public. Also, decorators often get a discount when going through furniture stores; not so much chains but regional independent stores. Last, there are "clubs" you join where you can purchase furniture at a huge discount as well as furniture that comes from model homes; they open their doors a few times a year and the assortment is amazing.

I tend to rip out pages from Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn and magazines that have a look like and then look for the less expensive version of it, lol. I watch their sales as well. Between Macy's and online sales plus Overstock and other sites like it....our home is quite beautiful, if I do say so myself. : )

Many furniture stores offer 'free' design services, but, of course, the proviso is everything must come from their store. Even though some of these are 'real' designers, most of them aren't going to be permitted to help you procure an item not sold through whatever store they're working in and many of them work commission so it's to their advantage to maximize your purchases from their company.

A friend of mine inherited a good sum of $ from her aunt. My friend decided to update her home that had the original decor from 1980s she hired a design/architect/decorator. Walls were removed, floors, etc. (kinda like fixer upper show!)

All I can say is her home is gorgeous & the decorator integrated the furniture/decor pieces she wanted to keep in the new open concept design. She had some pieces of her better furniture recovered, etc. Then some items the designer purchased from online and stores specializing in coastal decor (I know she used Wayfair & Houzz, Josh & Main for certain pieces).

It took a 7 months but if I ever had that kind of gift I would certainly redo my home with a designer.

Where do decorators get furniture? It depends on the decorator. One of my favorite TV decorators is Sarah Richardson and she'll often shop at Ikea or thrift/resale stores. She'll also have furniture built from scratch to suit her needs. I'm not sure she saves any money by using thrift store finds as she often then pays to have them reupholstered, refinished, or even rebuilt, but it's where she shops for stuff on her shows.
