Mistri,

For about $50, I got one of these when I lived in an apartment. It fit inside the hall closet and I used it for a pantry. I organized all the like foods together, and I could pull out a particular bin and take it to the kitchen while I was cooking.

I have a small home, and not much storage space.

I saw this, and thought it could be a great way to use the closet in my 2nd bedroom.

My first thought was Ikea, but then I remember seeing some nice closet organizers at Lowe's and Home Depot, too. I don't think they are very expensive. You might even check at WalMart and see what kind of shelving units they have.

I have one smallish closet off of my studio and I have shelving units on one half and a clothes rod on the other half. Even that gave me a lot of extra storage. I definitely understand what you mean by needing to be organized. Even though my house is fairly large I never seem to have enough storage. My DH says that no matter the amount of storage space I have I will always find more than enough stuff to fill it. hahaha

Oh, I see by your second post that you're looking for things to repurpose for storage in a closet. I've seen people use small chest-of-drawers inside their closets. And I have some vertical wire dividers that I think I bought at Lillian Vernon years ago that I use on the top shelf to organize shoes, scarves, sweater boxes, etc.

Have you checked at Amazon? Closet Maid has lots of organizers at very reasonable prices. Just do a search for closet organizers and they'll show up. There are some that are less than $20. Actually I saw a couple things that I might pick up for myself.

When we moved into our home in Pa I used those same metal shelves as the OP's picture to organize allthe closets. It was a great way to use the space, which would otherwise have probably just had stacks of stuff in them that we could never find anything. I highly recommend doing this. However, it is not as inexpensive as it may seem. BTW - if you go to Home Depot or Lowes - they will cut the shelves for you - so you don't have that to worry about. Also - in DH's home office he had stacks of stuff on the floor everywhere so I put up shelves all the way around the room 18" down from the ceiling for him to put that stuff up out of the way. When we sold the house the new owners asked us to leave the sheles up.

At Ikea they sell small metal boxes with clear lids that have a magnet on the bottom - i have rubber bands, paperclips, and erasers, & thumb tacks all in them stuck to the side of my DH"s metal desk.my girlfriend keeps spices in hers right on the side of the fridge. another friend keeps her threads for her crosstitch projects in them , on the side of her metal sewing table.

My tip may be obvious, but before you go out and buy more 'stuff' for organizing, I suggest having less stuff to organize in the first place.
