My grandmother always made a mixture of cider vinegar and her olive oil. Wish I knew her receipt as it worked great on even old pieces she picked up. I have used Murphy's for years.

I cleaned and polished my oak cabinets 2 months ago and they look brand new.

I mixed together 2 cups of warm water, 2 Tablespoons of Dawn, and a cup of white vinegar. Then I got my cloth wet with those ingredients and then sprinkled a little baking soda on the cloth. I scrubbed the wood and also used an old toothbrush to get into the crevices. Then I polished them with a product named Howard Feed and Wax that I bought from Amazon.

@halfpint1 There is a terrific wood treatment called Milsek that is a one-step polish and cleaner. You apply it to the wood with a dampened soft cloth.

This past summer, I took on the job of cleaning my solid wood kitchen cabinets....all 23 of them that had not been cleaned for quite some time. I researched all the different types of wood kitchen cabinet cleaners and decided on 'Parker and Bailey Wood Kitchen Cabinet Cream'. It easily but gently cleaned and polished the wood cabinets. I like the way it cleaned them, especially on the areas that had more dirt/grime like near the handles.

I don't like Murphy's Oil Soap for cabinets. I had a cleaning woman that used it some years ago, and the finish on my cabinets got gummy and wore off. My father also says that when used on floors it leaves a coating that is really difficult to get off with sanding. I just use ivory or dawn dish soap and water.

What a coincidence. I don’t clean my cabinets very often but I happened to clean them today. I also used Parker and Bailey kitchen cabinet cream and it is easy to use and does a good job. If only I could get my DH to open the doors by the pull only. He does have big hands.

@halfpint1 I use Murphy's, but if you don't want to use any soap or other cleaner, those Magic Erasers are the bomb and you only need water. I don't know what's in those things but I use them for all of my woodwork.

twopeas where to you get Magic Erasers? The cabinets haven't been touched since I moved in. Won't tell you how long. Now since I am the only one here I am tired of looking at them

Last week I ordered on-line from Walmart - and one item I received is Murphy Oil Soap (original wood cleaner). Haven't used it yet - but will soon.

@halfpint1 I get them from Wal Mart, but I'm sure they are available elsewhere. I take advantage of ordering on-line from WM of late and my latest purchase for them was on line. I bought a box of seven because it's a bit less expensive. Warning: The do tend to fall apart when scrubbing pretty hard, but IMO they are worth it, especially if one chooses not to use chemicals or abrasives.
