Houses looking small before framing😂😂😂

So today I got over to the house for the first time since we laid the slab for the garage and master bedroom. I am cracking up. My bedroom looks so tiny. All the rooms look tiny. It was funny when you don't have framing up and all you have is wide open space how it makes the rooms look small. I am like how can we put cars in that garage. But it is a huge garage at 1200 sq feet. Anyone else think there rooms looked small before framing started? I am laughing at stories online about people crying because they thought the builder made a mistake. Looks like I couldn't even fit a twin bed in my room and it's 14x14. So a good size room.

Absolutely, they always look tiny but to me, they still look small after the house is framed. Not until the sheet rock is installed do they look "normal",

I was also reading that flooring also makes it look bigger. We are building in a wide open area so that probably makes it even worse. I just think it's funny. Framing was going to start Tuesday but the framers are still working on another house. It will probably start by the end of the week or the week after. It will take about 8 days to frame. Then it gets weather wrapped and garage doors go up with all the windows. Hopefully the stone will be on before thanksgiving and it gets super cold.

I agree with you, the framing does make the rooms look very small! Small enough that we double checked the measurements .... but they were correct. This was our home six and a half years ago.

Now we have that house up for sale and want to downsize and move into town. So now my biggest complaint are the realtor's photos that are on line (like on Realtor.com) that use a wide-angle lens that distorts the photos so they look longer or wider so that when you actually go look at the house it looks a lot smaller than you thought, and oh yeah, they leave the measurements off the listing. I have to research the property in order to find the room measurements.... ah yes, fun times!

They leave the room measurements off? When we sold out house back in July my brother in law took measurements of every room and posted them on the listing.

My dad took a tape measure too.😂😂

Realtor.com doesn't seem to include that info, if they do I sure can't find it, lol! I carry a tape measure in my purse 24/7 now... lol!

@ccassaday Did your parents go to the Open House today to see the flooring? You had said your mom didn't like the floors she had picked out in the picture of the Open House. I'm curious as to whether she liked them when she saw them.

Yes they did. She liked it. Now she knows what kind of area rugs to get. They will have to be solid or shaggy with variations. I can post a pic. I will put it in my house thread.

Yes! Our house has begun to be built. We were there this week and said huh? This can't be our house! We won't be able to fit our cars in the garage! We actually looked at the sign that was posted on the lot to make sure they were building the right model!

😂😂😂😂 That's hilarious. We were prepared for it because our builder warned us. My mom went in to talk to the decorator to go over lighting she had picked out and she asked us if it seemed small.😂😂

The main floor is 2300 sq ft. The basement is 1800. My dad of course being a man wanted a huge garage so it's 1200. The basement will be unfinished since my dad is going do it himself over the next few years. After the basement is done there will be two extra bedrooms down there.

That's a nice size house, and I agree about men and their garages...I know my hubby would drool at the prospect of a garage that big! It's fun seeing the progress of your new place.

The one thing my dad wasn't going to compromise on was his garage. He did end up cutting it a few hundred square feet. He has tons of tools and wanted a good space to do any kind of projects. Eventually once we move in he will want to start doing some projects he enjoys. I think they are getting a lot for the price they paid. They have lots of equity since the land was paid off when we sold our house. I can't wait to move.

Foundations always look so small. Even after framing the footage looks small. I don't think you really get the true feel for size until the flooring goes in. Weird isn't it?

Very weird. I was laughing at googling this and reading stories from people who built. The entire thing looks huge because there is no step to the garage or patio. But when you look at each room and where stuff will be the individual rooms look tiny.
