Trading Spaces will return in 2018!

Just read that most of the original cast will be coming back, too. I'm looking forward to this!!

I had gotten thoroughly sick of Trading Spaces and felt it had run its course when it ended. I had stopped watching it. In a desperate grab for viewers they were doing outrageous things in peoples' homes, things that were impractical and unlivable. I have no desire to see this show return.

I liked it at first, but then it started getting too outrageous.

I remember when Hilde put all the hay on that couple's walls and the time that she stapled silk flowers on the bathroom walls.

Well, I'm going to give it a chance. It did get outrageous toward the end of its first run, but let's hope they won't do that again. I'll watch and see.

I wish I could be glad to hear this but it looks like it's going to be the same crew of over-exposed and, to my mind, mediocre 'designers' going at it again. What we really need is a decorating show, or shows, that offers a more normative set of aesthetics, where everything isn't either over the top or everything looks alike.

Thank you! I was trying to think of her name. Hildi Santos-Tomas. All I could remember was this crazy woman who stapled silk flowers all over the bathroom walls. If that had been my home I would have been furious! I think the homeowners were too.

The production company had to pay to have a lot of these rooms put back to normal.

I hope if the show is returning, that Hildi will not be one of the designers. I want to see real make-overs, done as tastefully as possible.

I remember looking through some of her "real" designs - very beautiful. I think she just did outrageous for the show.

I don't think I could have slept until all that hay was gone. LOL

I'm glad to hear she doesn't always decorate this way. I read one of the other decorators say, production pushed them to create extreme designs. I don't know why they would do that, I don't think most viewers liked the far out creations, as much as they liked rooms that were done with good taste.

The show was fun for awhile but did get outrageous after so long. And there were many homeowners who said, do NOT take the ceiling fan down, but the fans came down anyway. I use my ceiling fans all the time and would be very upset if they were taken out.

I would never, ever trust anyone to come into my home and do whatever they want to it without me being here and giving my input.

I'm sure I'll have to take a look at the new show.

I remember Doug painting somebody's beautiful, elaborate woodwork black. I cried and it wasn't even my house. I bet the show had fun putting that one back to its original condition.

I always liked Vern Yipp's ideas. Classic and with thought to the homeowners. I think he was on HSN for awhile.

I hope the new version will feature projects that viewers could actually be inspired by instead of gluing straw to the wall.

Some of those homes were a mess. I still miss shows like Design on a Dime.

There was also a show where they used a expensive, designer inspired room and replicated it for a fraction of the cost. Those are shows they should bring back.

@MoJoV I always thought of Vern as being the only genuine, bona-fide designer in the group. He was so much better than the rest, he seemed out of place.

I will never forget on this one episode where the designer thought it would be really retro to screw full size records over every inch of the front room. The home owners reaction was priceless.

The big thing was watching the homeowners reaction. You could tell when they weren't happy. Some even cried. What I read here reminded me of the crazy things they did. It was almost insulting what they did to some homes and homeowners.

That's kind of the whole point. It's tv. If you want a personal result that resembles your tastes and wishes, use a decorator. If you want it for free....sign up for Trading Spaces.

I have to agree with PP I think the show ran its course.

Toward the end it was sad and painful to see the damage they did to people's home for shock value.
