Sleep Number Bed Question

I'm really interested in the Sleep Number beds but need some more info. We would get a regular king as both myself and my husband have back issues and would require a different firmness. I'd like to hear from some of you who have a Sleep Number and what your advice/recommendations would be. Also, how's the price on QVC compare with in the store? And, also, if purchasing, which model would it be? So many choices, I'm confused.

Are you handy? You would have to put QVC's together yourself. I'm guessing a store would do it for you.

check into a Tempur-Pedic bed too....wished I would of bought that instead of a sleep number for what I know now.

My sleep number increases the air pressure on it's own going both ways, always need to check it before I go to bed. Warranty on the bed is pro rated per year and any replacement of motor etc the shipping is paid by you regardless.

With such a major expense, I seriously wouldn't buy anything online, there's no one to call and get any assistance but even with the sleep number store, sure they are really nice, they'll refer you to the special number to call and won't do anything in the store except sell you new one's.

We have the split king adjustable. Before buying anything go to a Sleep Number store and try out the different types. They can also check your pressure points. That said, these beds are expensive and the bedding even more so. My husband likes his side, but, he prefers a softer mattress. I like a firm mattress, and, as someone else said, it keeps going down in air.

I used to have a Tempurpedic bed for years because of my back. It was great, but was so heavy. So, one day I got the brilliant idea to get a sleep number bed. Went to the store, tried them out, and bought one that cost a lot. I was so glad to be able to move the bed around and clean underneath.

It came, was installed, and in less than 30 days I had it picked up again. It was no good for my back.

Went back to Tempurpedic and my back feels great again.

I love mine. I have a queen (not adjustable), and I have had it since August 12. Air stays in it, only changes when (if) I adjust it. My sleep number is very low though, a 35. I have duel controls, and live alone, but I do sleep on both sides of the bed. I love it! Previous to that, I paid $800 for a mattress that I ended up hating. So, yes, it cost double +, but I expect to have it a long time! My dad and brother in law put it together for me (surprise for me!), but they said it was a little over and hour to do it. Maybe 1.5 hours. I was grateful and very happy I didn't have to tackle that job. Have not regretted the purchase at all.

We have one and thoroughly love it.

We bought it at a Sleep Number store. It was easy to try the bed and decide its comfort. The store personnel was very helpful. There was no pressure but there was great deal of information.

Best of luck to you.

I had back surgery last year which gave me some relief, but you can't cure arthritis. So after going through two beds in three years, last month I finally purchased the Sleep Number p6 king. It was $3549.98 but they had a $800 discount and a 36 month no interest payment plan. I absolutely love it. I love the fact I can adjust it depending on my pain, but most of the time I'm a 65. The shipping was $89, or for white glove shipping $169......I opt'd for the $169 and glad I did. My husband could have done it, but these guys had it together in less than 30 minutes, and they took the old set with them! I wish I hadn't waited so long to get one.

Our Select Comfort bed is almost 20 years old. Still the original one. Prior to that, we had a soft-sided queen waterbed that used 7 bladders. Got our Select Comfort and never looked back. When we travel and plan a hotel stay, we try to use Radisson, as they have Sleep Number beds.

When traveling by car, and may be staying at other places, we take a queen Aero Bed with two controls with us. Hotels have no problem providing us with sheets for the Aero Bed. DS has a king bed in guest room, but has two twin Aero beds for us to use when visiting. They go right on top of the bed.

I like a firm bed, DH believed in sleeping on a marshmallow. Select Comfort took care of back and neck issues for both of us. Once you get used to sleeping on air, it's almost impossible to sleep on anything else.

Customer service with SC is supburb. Over the years, have had the pump unit go out twice; they overnighted replacements. At one point, the perimeter foam started to fall apart. They shipped a complete new set of the foam. Never charged us anything, even when the one pump unit died because of an electrical transformer down the street. My only wish is that I had the bed with the actual numbers on the controls. Ours simply pumps up and down. Can't really justify replacing the bed.

Ours is the first 'pillow-top' that SC came out with in the early '90s. There was plenty of room under the pillow-top for the foam topper or even a Tempurpedic topper. The only thing we changed 15 years ago - we got a good deal on the SC foundation. Prior to that, we just used out SC on top of the foundation from our soft side water bed.

Putting together is a piece of cake. Matter of fact, when we moved 15 years ago, we had the movers leave the room while WE took the bed apart for the move. (They had no idea how to take it apart, much less what to pack it in - they brought in both a mattress container and a box spring container). Took less than 10 minutes with no tools. When the movers saw what they needed to pack, they went out to truck and brought in a kitchen 'dish' container. We provided the box for the foundation, as we still had it in attic. When we got to our new home. we put it together. The ONLY reason it should take more than 20 minutes to assemble is if you count the time it takes to unpack it or if you're working with one hand (which my brother did). When a friend got hers last year, the two of us put it together. 25 minutes start to finish, INCLUDING unpacking. She's 76, I'm 73. It's a no-brainer.

You NEVER have to turn a SC mattress. Not unless you want to put the control unit at the foot of the bed. Which works fine with the cordless remotes, but ours is corded.

We have several friends who are 'motor home' bodies.

We have had our Cal King SC bed for almost 20 years also. I can't tell you how much we love it. Ours does not lose air at all. SC has a customer service department for QVC customers and they couldn't be nicer. We also had to have the foam sides replaced - complete set, completely free - no cost, no shipping cost either.

Everyone is different (as you can tell from this thread) but every night when I get in bed I say a Thank you for this bed. I have had back issues in the past and arthritis now and I don't think I could take sleeping on anything else.

I have a question too. I live in NJ where Hurricane Sandy hit and we were without power for days. Can this bed work if you have a power failure? Does it keep the air inside or do you have to adjust it to your sleep number every night? I guess if you do you're out of luck in a power failure situation.

We love ours. However, I agree, if you can get to their store to try one out, do so.

We now sleep on a Stearns and Foster extra firm mattress with a gel topper on and it's the most comfortable thing I've ever slept on.

Interesting....we sold our Sleep Number and went with a Stearns and Foster also - fabulous mattress!

I guess if you do you're out of luck in a power failure situation.

Lived in Texas (hurricanes), CA (earthquakes, tornados), and now GA (hurricanes, tornados). Learned back in TX that a backup generator was not a luxury; it's a necessity. Current one and previous ones - natural gas powered. (When electric power is out, you won't be able to buy gas to power a gas generator as the service stations can't pump gas). Learned that fast. Natural gas is the way to go. Propane isn't.

NO - you won't be able to adjust your bed without a power source of some kind. Just an FYI, though, you can power it from most any pre-charged source. We tried ours using the AC outlet on the battery charger for the car just out of curiosity. Worked fine

You won't lose the air already in the bed; that will stay as long as you don't remove the valve caps on the air bladder.

<IMG
