Hydrangea this year

The last four years we have had only a few buds on our plant. This year they are amazing! Here is a photo of the bush:

I was hoping it was blue but I think it is pink now it is almost done blooming. It was suppose to be blue but has always been pink. Maybe next year I will get some soil made to make them blue. I hope everyone's are this beautiful this year.

Is that a lace hydrangea or a mop head? My neighbor has a green one, the big mop heads - it is just huge!

My hydrangeas are amazing this year. The one in @MKR14 photo looks like it's part of the CityLine collection from Proven Winners. CityLine is a collection of compact macrophylla hydrangeas that are specifically bred to naturally be various colors from reds to deep blues. You can change the color of a hydrangea with acid, but that actually takes two or three seasons to fully accomplish.

I have bluish ones as well as a couple of stunning CityLine reds and Cottage Farms Pistachio hydrangeas. .

MKR...the same with my bushes here in southern Ct.....I have about 8 bushes and hundreds of flowers....these are the first flowers we have gotten in the past 4 years.......love them,I have cut some and have hydrangeas all over in my house !!

@Trix Not sure what kind this is as we bought it several years ago. I appreciate knowing what it is. I usually keep the tag that comes on plants I buy but my husband likes to throw them away. The last time it bloomed it was a light pink. Thanks for the comments. I am so excited to see it bloom again. We did move it from the front yard to the back yard a couple years ago and the soil may be better where it is now. Please post any photos you have of yours.

@MKR14 Your hydrangea is beautiful and looks so healthy. I snapped a picture of two that I planted together that are called "red" hydrangeas. They looked more burgundy (nine years ago) than red and are turning bluish now. If I fed them properly they would probably turn the color they were supposed to be at one time. LOL I'm really bad about doing that.

@pattypeep These are beautiful and I love them. I have only one bush and they do look a lot like yours. The colors are different this year as the colors are so more vibrant than ever before. Maybe the backyard soil is better than where it had been planted. We have done nothing but replant them. No Miracle Grow or nothing. Thanks for posting. I love seeing others as well as posting my own.

@MKR14 They look blue-purple to me, not pink. I love this color. I have Nikko Blue and it can be what I call blue, naturally, not purple, but this year they are blooming purple so must be the acidic fertilizer I used, whereas if I don't use it, they are the light blue.

@mousiegirl I love the blue. That is what I was hoping for but the ones I have are beautiful also. Mine have always been light pink and pale color before this year. I am just happy to have any flowers on them since it has been 4 years as just a green bush. I love all the ones posted here. I would love a whole front of my house in these.

@CaliKat, Thank you. I have been seriously gardening for 50 years. Even when I was still in grade school my folks had no problem getting me to mow the lawn and help take care of the plants and flowers. I have never taken any formal classes, I was just a girl with a good eye for landscaping, who asked a lot of questions, and as some call has a green thumb. My Q profile picture is a shot from my garden featuring Cottage Farms coneflowers and daylilies.

@MKR14, The flowers are a beautiful color. I live in an apt. so I only have flowers in pots on my deck during the spring/summer. You are lucky as you can plant what you want. I also am very fond of peonies and love all the colors offered.

I got two full weeks blooms out of my gorgeous vivid pink hydrangea bush this year! Its the best its ever looked.

Just beautiful!

I had 9 hydrangea plants put into my gardens this year. I have always admired them, but never had my own. Eight of them have bloomed, but one has not. My landscaper said they are "fickle" plants and don't always bloom at first. I'm satisfied with the ones that did bloom!

I had the Endless Summer Hydrangeas planted - I have a variety of colors in bloom right now -- blue (mostly), pink, and purple. I really wanted to get some red out of them, but I believe I would have to change the PH level in my garden and I know I won't do it.

I hope you enjoy your beautiful hydrangeas for many years to come!

I cannot have any plants because the deer eat anything/everything.

These are my favorite summer blossom. So much so, I have some "faux" hydrangeas in my front door flower buckets and baskets around the yard.

I know, I know -- fake isn't good, but it's the only way I can enjoy them.

My hat is off to those who garden. I cannot.

@CaliKat, Thank you. I read so many posts and reviews where people say they didn't get results from Cottage Farms plants. For that reason, I intentionally chose an image with thriving Cottage Farms plants for my profile pic. To be honest it did take three seasons in my garden to start to render the size and color shown on the photo.

@MKR14, This image features one of my lilac/purple Endless Summers. For the record, those are indeed burgundy Cottage Farms daylilies behind it. This spot on my patio only gets a little less than 3 hours of direct sunlight for the entire day.

This is a Pistachio Cottage Farms hydrangea. It's planted along the same walkway as the Endless Summer. This is its second season in the garden. I get some blooms, but the shrub is still a bit short of mature height. The photo after that one is a somewhat total view of how I have the various hydrangeas planted in groups with daylilies, hostas, and annuals to give a shady location loads of color. All of the daylilies are Cottage Farms. I highly recommend regular fertilizing with Spray 'N Grow.

@Trix Your flowers are all gorgeous. You have a great variety also. My hydrangea looks like the lilac/purple Endless Summer ones you have. Thanks for sharing. You should be very proud of your flower garden as you can see all the love you have shown it.

@MKR14, Thanks so much. As an apartment dweller, I am grateful that instead of hiring one of the many commercial landscapers in the area, my building management entrusts our gardens to me. I work so early that many people do not know who cares for the building's gardens, so it makes me very proud when I hear of inquiries as to what company does our landscaping.

The patio includes additional sections than what is shown on the photo. There is also a vast front garden, which includes the sunniest section where I replace hydrangeas with roses. It is on the front side of the of the building adjacent to a drivway into our parking garage where I planted the easy to care for Cottage Farms daylilies and coneflowers in a very sunny location. There are also containers with plants on the patio and in front of the building. I'm not an expert on footage, but it's a big garden and a labor of love! I also help out in community gardens and if friends ask, I will help them with their gardens.
