The wood and workmanship are amazing. I'm not sure of the chair, for me anyway, but the desk (assuming that's what it is) is quite lovely. Clearly though, this piece is primarily for admiring as the functionality is somewhat limited.

The wood is beautiful. I'm a person who loves unpainted wood.

When we built our house (years ago), I went in and as the carpenters put up the trim around the windows and frames around the doors, etc, I stained each thing BEFORE they put it up.

It's still like that today. It adds a lot to the feel of the rooms.

Is that @lolakimono yours? Tell me the story behind this, please? I'm curious.

My favorite woodworker/cabinetmaker was James Krenov. He combined function and beauty in his pieces. His attention to detail was quite impressive. He examined every part of cabinetmaking to the finest level imaginable. Even simple things like door pulls got special attention from him.

A left hand door on a cabinet for example will typically be opened by the left hand. When you reach out to grab the pull you're typically reaching out with your thumb and forefinger. If you look at those two fingers as you'd be reaching for the door pull you'll see that the thumb is pretty much horizontal while the forefinger is more vertical. He would carve the door pull for the left hand door so there was a concave horizontal area on the right hand side of the pull and a concave vertical area on the left hand side of the pull so your thumb and forefinger would just naturally settle into those grooves and the door and your hand would become one. He'd do the opposite for the right hand door.

His attention to detail was pretty much unmatched in the woodworking world. He was able to combine artistry with practicality and did so in a beautiful fashion.
