Hobby Lobby disappointment

Went to Hobby Lobby today to find some decor for my newly painted basement kitchen when I get it done. Boy, everything was cowboy, galvanized, cows, horses - all western inspired decor - what's with that? How many people decorate in the western theme? Ridiculous! I did find a couple of items. I think with the yellow walls the accents are going to be red since I have a red and white table down there and white appliances. I found a gingham goldish and red checked material which I believe I am going to make a curtain for the window above the refrigerator. Just disappointed I didn't find anything kitcheny. Definitely don't like the new trend at HL.

Did see a lot of baskets and things I will be getting for my laundry room once wallpaper is off of it and it is completed (next project). Want to put some shelves up and do a beige/turquoise theme in there.

I've only been twice, but I just don't like the store. Can't put my finger on the reason. Maybe other stores are different than my local store.

@hoosieroriginal I noticed the Western theme in our local Hobby Lobby also, not a fan of it either, if I remember right on my last visit, I walked out without purchasing anything.

Well, Hobby Lobby is based in Oklahoma City, possibly explaining the Western decor.

I think it's just a trend for a season or two.

I remember the shabby chic - not especially for me but I lived through it.

@proudlyfromNJ - No, sadly, we don't - really wish we had one, but I would be in REAL trouble if we had a Home Goods here. Even looked at TJ Maxx, nothing special in wall decor there either. I did end up buying a galvanized chalk board, but I'm going to paint it red. Liked the size of it, but not the galvanized look.

@VirgoGirl I am a Kirkland's regular, either I shop in store or on line, they always offer discount coupons and their inventory changes quite frequently, I absolutely love that store!

Edit: If you do not want to sign up for their emails, I just discovered that you can go to their website, type in the search bar "Discount Coupons" and it will bring up all that are available at the time. Now at times they will be for online orders only (but they do FREE ship to store) or for in store only, but a couple of times they have offered both so it is at least worth a try if they have nothing on their homepage!

@VirgoGirl - never heard of Kirklands! Yes, have a Pier One, completely forgot about that - I'll check it out.

@hoosieroriginal ~ Don't laugh, but do you have a (nicer) consignment/resale shop near you? There is one in our town I visit a few times a week. They put different things out everyday, and I have found some fabulous things at great prices. My most recent acquisition is a vintage oak kitchen table and four chairs for $105.00! It's in beauiful shape for it's age ~ I love it! You never know what you might find! :-)

@Julie928 - I love buying old furniture to repaint/refinish. I have several pieces from a little antique/junk shop in my area - these weren't expensive items, but I refinished them and they look expensive. Love projects like that.

Try Michael's, Pier One, Big Lots........My mom loves Hobby Lobby and can stay in there for hours, I personally don't care for it that much. They do have some nice lamps, and great sales on them too...

Yeah for Western themes! Seriously, you need to start checking Zulily. They have the cutest kitchen things. You won't find everything in one day but over a period of time you should be able to dress up your kitchen. They had a lot of items last week-end but they're gone now. I forgot to check out and missed some cute sunflower-themed items.

Be sure to download the coupons on their website. At my HL, there is a lot of cowboy stuff but also other decor. Really cute stuff, I don't think I've ever walked out of there empty-handed. The last thing I purchased was a plaque to hang on the outside wall of my cubicle at work. "God bless America, Land that I Love" Very rustic, just perfect.

Hmmm...I've been to Hobby Lobby quite a bit over the past couple of years due to wedding planning, parties I've given, and holiday decorating. I usually look around (because I can't help myself) when I'm there and actually find a wide variety of styles (glam, modern, traditional, rustic, masculine). I live between Milwaukee, WI & Chicago and our Hobby Lobby is fairly updated & new (expanded to new location w/in last year). My guess is that Western is a new & popular style...who knew!?! I agree that decorating in Western style might not appeal to the masses. Personally, that's not my style at all. I wonder if it is because of the popularity of the Fixer Upper (Texas) style that is popular now because of HGTV. I wouldn't write-off the store. I'm guessing this is a new trend, so it's taking up a lot of floor space. I just love our Hobby Lobby...it's huge and has a ton of different decor. It probably has a wider variety of styles than other home decor stores in my area. I also find the prices to be reasonable.

It's so much fun to redecorate and I wish you well in your endeavors. Have fun! I just remember that there were periods of time that I didn't care for clothes styles or home decor styles and it was simply because what was popular at that time just didn't suit my taste preferences. For instance, I just love bling & glam and I know it's going to be out-of-fashion soon & I'll be sad LOL!

I was at Hobby Lobby last week and they had Fall decorations out...scarecrows, pumpkins, wreaths. Then I turned the corner and saw some Christmas items...stockings and tree decorations. I was so shocked I took a pic and sent it to my Mother and sister.
