Used to drive by big houses (old style) and think how many Great Danes I could have in that house! LOL!!

I'd hardly say an A-frame was typical of housing in the US. Mostly used for cabins as there isn't much room in them.

If you go back to the beginning, the A frame is actually Swiss because of the weight of all of the snow.

I prefer the half timber or Tudor.

From the pics, I would choose the conch house. My favorite home style is Victorian, with the big wrap-around porches; I also like low-country homes.

I'm originally from Chicago, and we used to tour the Frank Lloyd Wright homes when they were open to the public.

I now live about 10 minutes from Taliesin West..........and I've never gone there.................

My favorite house style is the Federal style. They tend to be boxy which is a very economical way to build a house. They have lots of windows for cross ventilation in the summer and good lighting and views. They can be very energy efficient in that most heat is gained or lost through the roof and they have multiple stories so a smallish amount of roof covers a lot of square footage.

If you look at 2500+ sq ft houses and one's a two story Federal style house and one's a ranch, the differences can be pretty impressive. The Federal style house may have a square footprint that's 36 feet long on each side. Four 36' long foundation walls leaves you with around 144 feet of footing and foundation to build. And you'd only need enough roof surface to cover half of that total volume or about 1298 sq ft.

Compare that to a single story ranch house of 2500+ square feet using similar dimensions (36'X72') and for the one story ranch house you'd need 216 linear feet of footing and foundation (two 36' long walls and two 72' long walls) as opposed to the 144 feet (four 36' long walls) you'd need for the federal style house. The roof on a ranch has to cover the whole 2500+ sq ft since it's all one story.

I also like the look of the Federal style homes. They're classy to look at, cheaper to build, have good energy efficiency and have very few drawbacks unless you want a single story home.

It seems to have missed the homes the vast majority of Americans live in - ranches, colonials,stucco.Vinyl siding, brick. Shingle roofs.
