On 3/11/2015 keeper of the koi said: Oh my thank you so much for this! So delicious looking.....Edward. Is still drinking the boost and also eating lighter foods. Feeling so much better makes my heart happy to see. I did not Know you could freeze grape leaves. I love your tips, you truley are a great source of information.. Thanks again look forward to your future posts.... Maryanne

So relieved that Edward is enjoying the Boost, and please Maryanne keep plenty of those on hand, as well as OJ, and candies with sugar.

I also prefer Pedialyte as opposed to OJ and water only because sometimes a diabetic may not be able to keep OJ with water down, but can keep Pedialyte down......Just remember to use within 48 hours then discard it as it will lose it's potency, and always refrigerate Pedialyte after opening it.....Pedialyte really helps stop dehydration. Diabetics need all those products to remain safe.

If I did not mention about th OJ and candies with sugar please do post back here, and I will type in what every diabetic and person who cares for a diabetic needs to know.

I had 30 years worth of experience taking care of my beloved multiply disabled cardiac and diabetic Mom.

Hope all is well, wondering if you have made your own stuffed grape leaves or do you purchase ready made? I have never found a tinned brand that the leaves aren't mushy.Thank you, blessings, Maryanne

Although I have never made suvlaki, I was drawn to this post because I am Armenian and even though we call it "sarma" I was raised on stuffed grape leaves. As my parents' generation has aged and many have passed, it is becoming a lost art in my family. But your post brought a smile to my face as I took a trip down memory lane! Thanks Keeper!

Keeper of the Koi,

Give me a few minutes for the souvlaki recipes and btw which type did you need Maryanne?...Chicken, fish, lamb, pork or beef?.... and I will post back.

For the grape leaves I stopped growing my own on a trestle because too much work, so now I buy the Orlando California grape leaves in the jar with the yellow lid. They come in small and large sizes and I use either one depending how many grape leaves I plan to make and serve.

Thanks Adore I was looking for chicken or beef... Danky not so far fetched, I actually have 3 acres of wine grapes ,belonged to a vintner.. Asking because it seem like an odd response to a recipe request of someone who is obviously an accomplished homemaker.

SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION WHEN CHOOSING SKEWERS:

ALL OF THE ABOVE CAN BE EITHER GRILLED OUTSIDE OR BAKED IN YOUR KITCHEN OVENS AT 375 DEGREES UNTIL DONE, AND DO CHECK THEM OFTEN SO THEY DO NOT BURN.
Danky not so far fetched, I actually have 3 acres of wine grapes ,belonged to a vintner.. Asking because it seem like an odd response to a recipe request of someone who is obviously an accomplished homemaker.

I really loved growing the grape leaves on the trestle out back but when we began to travel abroad so much we decided to take it down and resort now to getting fresh grape leaves from Greek, Lebanese, and Armenian friends who still grow their own.......or we buy the Orlando brand which in my opinion is the ready made grape leaves which are not too old and not so tough.....and I have tried all the other brands, but still come back to the Orlando California jar grape leaves with the big bright yellow lid.

BTW I made some a few days ago and used the larger Orlando size. Had many left over so I cooked them all then drained them and placed them in lock and locks and froze them. Now to reheat I would add a little lemon juice with water to moisten them and reheat for a few minutes until heated through in the microwave.

P.S. I also had a lot of thick egg lemon sauce left which would not keep so that went out, but when I thaw in the fridge then drain and reheat the dolmathes, I will drain the lemon in water well from the dolmathes, and then make another thick Greek egg lemon sauce to crown them with.
