I love my rice cooker. You can buy a simple one, with one press and go setting, or something with more options. Mine is an Aroma rice cooker which comes with a steamer tray and settings for white rice, brown rice, saute-than-simmer, and a delay timer. As I type this, I have brown rice in the cooker on a delay timer and the rice will be perfectly cooked and set to warm when I get home tonight. I can steam fish, veggies, or chicken in the steaming tray or make soup in the cooker. I can saute items before turning it on cook mode, too. The Aroma website has over 200 recipes that can be made using a rice cooker, from cake and oatmeal to chili or chicken.

Whether or not the rice comes out fluffy depends on following directions, but rice comes out consistently. I add rice, water, and salt and my rice doesn't stick to the inside. Once I scoop the rice out, I can easily hand wash the pot or put it in the dishwasher. I grew up with a rice cooker and have always found it to be a valuable appliance.

I used to have a rice cooker. To me it was not any better than cooking in a saucepan on top of the stove. Plus the rice cooker I purchased had an aluminum inset pot and the rice would stick to that. I quit using the rice cooker and went back to my original cooking method. I don't think that the rice was any fluffier with the rice cooker. Good luck with your decision. Maybe others have had a better experience with theirs.

I have had a Wolfgang Puck rice cooker for several years. I do use it for rice for the simple reason that the pot doesn't have to be "watched". If you have other things to do in the kitchen, this is a blessing. It also turns off when the rice is done and automatically adjusts the controls to "keep warm". Yes, it is fluffy. I mostly use it to steam vegetables. Esp broccoli and cauliflower so that the veggies stay crisp. Works great for that.

My 1.5 cup puck rice cooker makes perfect rice. I cook lots of other things in it, too. Love it. Ifyou get a cooker, it might take a couple of times to figure out exactly how much rice, water to use. I love it.

I don't have a special rice cooker, but I do cook rice in my crockpot. I did it the first time for my dog, but I was so impressed with the fluffiness of the rice that I started to use it for us people too. Obviously it's slow - it's a slow cooker - but I much prefer the result over cooking it more quickly on the stove.

I also bought the mini 1.5 cup WP rice cooker. Love it. It does make fluffy rice. I have always made instant rice in the past. It's nice for just the 2 of us. If I already have some leftover rice I can put some thin cut pork chops in the RC & have dinner ready pretty quick. The pork chops with gravy & rice are really good & just make a salad to go with it. It also makes good beef stew. I can put in the meat, potatoes, carrots, onions & it makes 2 servings of beef stew. Comes in handy when I just want to make a small amount. It makes yummy mac n' cheese & so easy. I'm going to try the banana nut bread in it soon to see how it turns out. If I had not bought the cookbook with the RC I would have no idea what to cook in it. I thought it just made rice.

I have a cheap old Proctor Silex one, had it for many years and use it at least once a week. I would love a newer one when I get around to it, so I would certainly buy another one and could not do with out it!

It is great to have it doing its own thing while I am getting the rest of dinner together, or helping my kids with homework. Mine makes fluffy rice. I usually use Jasmine rice and I use a little less water or broth(what I usually use) than called for and the rice comes out more fluffy. I will add chopped veggies and herbs/seasonings at times too. It works great also on rice mixes that come in a box/envelope for a quick side...love taco/Spanish rice when we have tacos.

I can do all that and never give a thought to the rice.

To me that's simply a miracle! We also eat rice as a side dish, hubby likes it with chili (his momma ain't from around here and they put beans in chili).

Hey Sooner! Glad to hear they make them better now.

I usually have a little white rice in the freezer (in case the dog has tummy problems) and a larger L&L full of brown rice in there (for me).

I really enjoy rice. I've been mildly concerned about the whole arsenic thing, but I try to buy California brown rice and - well, I'm not dead yet!

Happy day!

PS: About the beans - Hey, I resemble that remark.

I love my inexpensive rice cooker! I only have 4 stove burners, so I really really appreciate having this pot cook rice on the counter, not taking up a burner. Mine is an 8 cup capacity, aluminum inner removable vessel, with cook and warm settings, called Elite probably from Walmart. I normally measure 3C rice, 4.5C water or chicken broth, set it to "cook" and the pot steams away freeing me to do other things, and when its done it pops up to "warm" and stays that way until I want it. Normally, rice doesn't stick but if it does, a little water in the pot while we eat and its loosened enough to hand wash easily and completely. If this little pot ever stops working I will definitely buy another one just like it. While it was inexpensive, I totally find it Quality, Valuable, and Convenient

Remarkable isn't it!
I like Jasmin rice and make it in a rice cooker. The rice tastes and smells different, better by a lot, from the same rice made in a pot on the stove. It's magic.

I don't have one but I asked my son to bring his over one time when I was making shrimp creole for a crowd. It was really nice and the rice turned out perfect!
