My mom told me earlier that her Keurig was on its last leg and she is thinking about going back to an old standby automatic drip coffee maker. Do any of you use one that you love? Thanks in advance.

Hamilton Beach Brew Station, period! I love it and so does my grandmother and coworkers. I have a Keurig at home, which I use the my k-cup for brewing my own coffee grind. But at work, I drink much more coffee and so do my co-workers. My grandmother loves hers as well. It keeps the coffee hot without burning it all day! I found my original at Target for a steal about 9 years ago. It is still going strong. My grandma and I got them at the same time. When I moved offices at work and took my coffee pot with me, they had to get their own. They got a Brew Station. Here are the pages from Amazon, but you can get them at WalMart, Target, Kohls, anywhere. They range in price from $26 for a 6 cupper on up to around $70 for the ultra model. I also love coffee from a percolator, so when I want a large pot, if I'm working at home, I use my antique percolator. If I want a nice strong brew for a cappuccino or just a strong brew, I use my Areopress. It makes one cup at a time, but makes a nice strong brew that preserves the oils in the coffee. I use all three depending upon my mood. The Areopress is also at Amazon and requires hot water and brews in about 3 minutes for the wait and brew method. Here are some pics of them all.

$26 6-cup model

$45 12 cup

$45 12 cup with removable water tank, programmable

$69 12 cup programmable the "Ultra" model

$25 Areopress

$38 percolator

My cuisinart is 10 years old & still brews as HOT as it did the day I took it out of the box! In fact, the coffee stays hot for the full 2 hours (auto shut off). Mine is just the glass carafe style with push button on/off, programmable style. I just purchased another because the Macy's sale was terrific (1/2 off + 25% coupon) I couldn't resist -- hope I didn't jinx mine but if I did I have a backup!

I guess it depends how much coffee she drinks. The Keurig is perfect for us because I rarely drink coffee, and if I do, it's one cup of decaf. DH only drinks one cup before going to work. I love the hot chocolate and tea occasionally. So for us, it would be more wasteful to toss out pots of coffee. If your Mom is the same, I'd suggest sticking with the Keurig (even though that's not what you asked

It does require more coffee to brew a very strong cup of coffee (2 large AreoPress scoops). You can dilute it (American Coffee) or fill with frothed milk or flavored frothed milk of your choice. Instant latte or cappuccino. I fill mine upside down so the grounds will soak in the hot coffee for 3 minutes, then I press it. You get the great oil and creme. It does take little time compared to brewing a pot or my percolator, but the coffee is great! I drink one cup at a time since it serves as a portion control. If I have to get up and make it instead of filling my cup, I'll think about how much I'm drinking. I try to switch to green tea after lunch for the antioxidants. I haven't used the AreoPress for tea, but it would make a great cup as well, provided the water is the right temp and the tea leaves are allowed to bloom for the right time.

The clean up is easy as the paper filter and pressing the grounds makes a coffee ground puck that just pops right out. You can also buy a metal filter that allows for more of the oils to come through, but mine came with a ton of the paper ones, so I'll use those first then buy the metal one. I just compost the the coffee puck and paper filter.

I haven't had luck with Keurig brand coffee pots either and decided I didn't want to waste my money on another one.

Over a year ago DH bought me a Mr. Coffee (single cup) pot that takes Keurig cups and it's still working fine. I don't drink a lot of coffee but have to have that first cup in the morning and this works well for me. I just add filtered water each time I use it and it gives me a great cup of coffee each time. It was also a lot less expensive than a Keurig.

Perhaps the Mr. Coffee pot would work well for your mother too.

A couple of years ago I bought a Presto 12 cup electric percolator after reading raves on here of the old Farberwares (which last forever). We love the good, hot coffee it makes. I've heard the newer electric percolators don't last decades like the older ones so I bought another as backup. Recently had a group of friends over and they loved the coffee.
