Put in your giant pantry.

I live in Georgia and have the Vidalia one all year, then again, we have Vidalia onions all year as well. They keep really well, but I chop them up and freeze them and whole ones to have to use.

The one you buy at Walmart for 99.00. I bought Wed. because it's double the size of the small ones. Bed &Bath just carries the small ones that go for 179 -250.

I read tons of reviews before I bought it , so, I already knew the pros and cons.

Just a heads up for anybody thinking on buying one.

Think I'm gonna really like it because I can put in a whole cookie sheet instead of just a quarter size. Which is the main reason I bought it. If my wall oven , after it gets fixed, doesn't stay at 350` then I will just use it for meats, turkey, etc. I wanted a big toaster oven for cookies mainly and didn't want to spend a fortune on.

cons: if you want 350` set the temp (digital) at 325 and preheat for 7-10 min it will climb to 350`. I set it to 350 ,first, and it climbed to 375`. So, it's trial and error.

Be careful of the door. Handle it gently. I wouldn't recommend this one for households with teenagers and clumsy and impatient users. People have reported breaking the glass out but I suspect that's in households where people are in a hurry and rough.

It gets really hot. Could have been insulated better, but, just use common sense.

If they had made a really large one for 200 and was better quality then the Oster then I would had bought it. I think this one was made for the price conscious. Why only Walmart carries it.

Gonna give it a try out Sat. My wall oven is still down, so, glad I bought this one. Never had the convection feature before. I understand you convert bake times when using the convection feature. So, if recipe calls for 350`, when using convection feature punch in 325. I'm going to give it a run thru first.

By the way when U pay for it the clerk (if you buy at walmart) will say "do you want the warranty "? I said "how much is it". "8.00" So, I took it. Forewarned is forearmed. go on amazon, walmart, oster, etc. to read reviews.

Good luck !

Wow they raised the price at Walmart $20 in the last couple of years. It is one of the very few ovens that will fit a 16" pizza and actually you can fit 2 of them (one on upper shelf, one on lower).

I agree. I use mine most days. It won't fit a 9x13, so I would use it even more if it did. Mine is quite a few years old, but going strong. They do get hot and mine has a glass door. I'm careful on opening and closing it without slamming. I use it more in the summer since it is hot down here and the regular oven gets the kitchen hot as well!

Yep, I addressed that concern up in my thread. I saw the pics online. Did my homework. I live in 2 person household. Husband doesn't do anything in the kitchen 'cept holler "is dinner ready". The door is lax, but, I take care not to jerk it open, slam it shut, let it down easy, don't let it clang a bang against the counter, etc. I know the way people live now days somebody probably wasn't taking the time to be gentle with it and that's what they got. You have to use common sense. I took out the 8.00 warranty guarantee to be on safe side too.

You have to use common sense. I took out the 8.00 warranty guarantee to be on safe side too.

Good but the problem really is with the quality/type of glass they have decided to use for their oven doors..somewhat similar to what is being passed off as pyrex today that comes with a warning about not being for stovetop use..

"Avoid sudden temperature changes to glassware. Do not add liquid to hot glassware; place hot glassware on a wet or cool surface; or handle hot glassware with wet cloth. Allow hot glassware to cool on a cooling rack, potholder or dry cloth. Allow hot glassware to cool before washing, refrigerating or freezing. Preheat oven before inserting glassware. Do not use on or under a flame or other direct heat source, including on a stovetop, under a broiler, on a grill or in a toaster oven. "

Yet Pyrex was glassware that was used in the laboratory where I routinely would heat a test tube with a Bunsen burner which produces flame far hotter than any residential or commercial gas stovetop is capable.

This thought is similar to how modern Corningware comes with all sorts of warning and is nothing like the original product ,.. why ? because the glass composition has changed.

Nothing is made with care and quality anymore. Shame, how quickly I accept that. After my repair man told me what I could expect if I went out and bought a whole new wall oven because my 4 yr. old one wasn't maintaining 350` temp. He said the chances of me getting a good one would be "just ok and sorry Charlie". I decided I wasn't buying a new oven. He came back out Mon. and replaced the sensor (248.00, trip charge 80 of that). I just have to adjust my new Oster to 325` to get it to settle at 350`. I can't afford a Bosch or one of the better ones and at my age I wouldn't get my monies worth out of it before I kick. So, guess I'll just do my adjusting on the Oster and use the wall oven for meats, turkey, etc.

I've had the Oster extra large convection oven for two years now. I use it most of the time rather than my regular oven.

Main reason I bought it was it's really big. You can get in a whole cookie sheet not have to mess around with quarter size cookie sheet. Get in a whole pizza. Get more done in less time.

Funny , my Oster small one that I just put away held great temp. Never deviated from 350` perfect temperature control and was insulated better then this huge one I have now. Guess I like Oster products. Have had their bread machine for over 5 yrs.

I think this new Oster huge convection/toaster oven is good for experienced cooks. People with kids in the house would have to tell them the unit gets real hot and don't touch the glass on the door, be careful what your doing when you use it. Don't open and slam the door, common sense approach.

In the future, maybe they or somebody else will come out with a big one like this one that is new and improved and would be better suited to the public at large.

Have had this oven for 2 years now. Still going strong. I like the fact you can fit bigger pans in it. I bought it because I have a huge Viking Oven that I use mostly for doing full sheet cakes. I don't want to turn on a big oven just for 2 people. This Oster Oven is awesome. You will really be glad you bought it. By the way, I picked up another one at Sam's Club for $79.00 just so I have a back up.

Bumping this thread, because I have some questions. I just purchased this oven and used an oven thermometer in it to see if the temps were accurate. Both on regular bake and on convection bake, even though I had the oven set at 350, it registered 375. So I can see that I need to reduce the temp by 25 degrees for all recipes.

Question #1: Since I need to lower the temp by 25 degrees to make it accurate, do I then need to lower the convection temp by 50 degrees? I've read that if cooking with the convection feature, you're supposed to lower the temp 25 degrees, but this oven is already 25 degrees too hot.

Question #2: Do I use the top rack position for everything? I know I would need to use the bottom rack position for a taller vessel, but for casseroles and baking, do I use the top rack?

Question #3: Can/Should I use the convection feature on everything I bake? We tried a pizza in it using the regular bake mode, and one side got much browner than the other, so I can see that I need to turn items halfway through cooking if using the regular bake. We then tried another pizza using the pizza button (which uses convection), and it baked perfectly making me think I should use the convection on everything.

Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

I reduce the temp to 325 for when something calls for 350` it usually climbs to 350.

I don't use the convection feature that much. You might try just using the lower rack for pizza keeping it not so high up against the heating element when using the bake option. If the convection feature works best for you and gives you the results you like I would use it.

I usually keep both racks in there one right under the other, midway down position.

50 degrees sounds to much. I went online and got measurements for convection cooking seems like it said just 25 degrees too, like normal baking. I haven't seen an oven yet that has precise, accurate set temps. Maybe in the pricey ones that cost thousands, but, not at my level of Sears or Lowe's quality. LOL

Really, what it comes down to is trial and error. Be careful of the door it likes to come down fast. I gently lower it. I don't have kids, so, it's not a problem for me. If you got teens in the house I'd instruct them .

think a lot of the problem your having is rack height. Just put them both together at mid level think it would be better.

Enjoy !

Thank you everyone for your comments. I've been looking at this oven for a while. I like that full size pans can be used in it.
