I don't think in my self cleaning oven that I can use Easy Off. I would have to get the book out but I think that is a no no. I hate to use the oven cleaner it really heats up and I think when that oven get so hot it has to damage some parts in it. I had a repairman here to put a new thermostat in mine and he said he doesn't even use the self cleaning part because he to thinks that all the hot heat ruins some of the parts. I have used that super cleaning Dawn and baking soda when I have something spill over.

I decided tonight I was going to make a pineapple upside down cake ... Good thought BUT I didn't use the 13x9 instead I used the 8x8...that wouldn't have been a problem EXCEPT I didn't cut back the recipe for the butter/sugar but I did for the batter. I'm sitting here smelling this great cake and then my senses kicked in "something's burning!" Yup you guessed it the sugar syrup ran all over the bottom of the oven. The smell is really overpowering and of course the oven is much too hot to clean now! Thank god for my scrub daddy he's going to get a workout tomorrow but my real ? -- self cleaning oven can I use a soft scrub product. I've really never had this kind of mess! Thank you

You can use it on a cool oven, but avoid the thermostat and heating element. You'll need to rinse it really well or you might get fumes the next time you turn your oven on. Rather than the Softscrub, you might try a paste of baking soda and water. Be generous and let it sit there for like 30 minutes and then scrub with your Scrub Daddy. Repeat if needed.

Best advice anyone can give you is to take the advice of the instruction you received with your oven. I would never do that without seeking professional help like the booklet or the website.

Try a baking soda and vinegar paste. You can let it set for awhile. Whoops, just saw the soda and water one above. We used the soda and vinegar in a rental unit not too long ago.

I always make pineapple upside down cake in a heavy skillet myself.

If you use Easy Off , wear gloves. I didn't and used it with my green scratcher. Scotch Brite and about ate my finger tips off. I had like an acid burn and tingling finger tips for 2 days had to use Vasoline for all the times I didn't have my hands in water. After that I ran out and bought gloves. LOL

Now I know why some manufacturers do not honor warranties. Defy the instructions and then ask for a replacement when you ruin your oven.

I think that it's a good idea to check your oven's owner's manual, like namelalreadytaken recommended. If you don't have it, I would look online to see what the oven's manufacturer gives for cleaning recommendations.

I have used baking soda as a paste myself, when cleaning my stove and oven. I have an older oven, and this has worked.

If you are going to try this, I would "spot test" it first, to make sure that your oven surface doesn't scratch, just to be safe.

I haven't used Soft Scrub in some time, but if I recall correctly, it has a mild abrasive in it, and that might accidentally scratch your oven. I would personally feel more comfortable with using that on sinks and bathroom surfaces, if that were me.

Thank you everyone - I think when the oven was still warm I used hot water & dawn to clean up the spill when liquid. I used the paste info like someone said -- a little scrubbing and all is well. I turned the oven on just to see if I'd have smoke, etc. nothing! Thanks again as always great info here (esp when I do dumb things!). Yes I saw the cake prep directions said "cast iron" skillet but don't have one & I don't make these type of things often.

Easy off has a fume free cleaner that you can use in a cold oven and works in self cleaning ovens as well.

Good luck with that mess. I always line my oven bottom with heavy duty aluminum foil. I hate to clean the oven. Easy Off works, but the fumes will kill you! The self-cleaning mode scares me to death and lasts too long.
