How often do you put up clean dish towels/cloths in your kitchen?

Don't know if this has been asked before, but how often do you change out your dish cloths towels and hand towels in the kitchen for a clean set?

I'm sure a lot will depend on just how much you cook. I prepare three meals a day, most every day of my life. I try to change out all towels every day or every other at the least. I don't have a dishwasher, so these items get heavy use.

I don't know if there have been any studies or not about the amount of harmful bacteria on them in the average kitchen, but it would seem the place most important for quick turn around of the linens.

What's the norm at your house?

Good question. I change out mine about every 3 days. I do have a dishwasher but I still wash some things by hand. I use lots of paper towels so m dish cloths and dishtowels don't get very dirty but I just like to keep them clean and sterile..I live alone and do cook everyday for myself..In a week, I usually have 3 of each in the wash..It's a me thing..lol

Every couple days or so. It just depends.

I have a sponge that I use to clean the dishes/silverware/pots and pans. Then I wash with a cloth.

I get a new sponge about every month or so. That sponge does not clean countertops or anything. I have a dishwasher which helps a lot.

I seldom use a dish towel and I only wipe clean hands on my kitchen towel. (Not the same one) Paper towels in the kitchen for messy wipe-ups are my one luxury! Wipe dirt up and throw it away!

Every couple of days but I do have a dishwasher. I love the dish towels from Anthropologie, so it's fun changing them out for different designs.

Every couple of days, but then I have a dishwasher, live alone, & don't cook a lot. I also knit almost all of my dishcloths & dish towels from cotton yarn, so I have lots.

I am pulling out clean ones every other day or so. My kitchen towels and wash cloths always seem to get so stiff over time. I like the bar towels at Kohl's. They are so soft when I buy them, but after using and washing them for awhile, they end up kind of rough. Anyone else have that problem? I use dryer fabric sheets, but those don't seem to have any effect on my kitchen towels and wash cloths.

We put out new ones every night. If it is really warm and humid in the summer, we change morning and then again later in the day. It is a big deal with me. Sometimes I wash dishes with paper towels because I don't want to leave a used dishcloth around too long (if we are going out or something).

I wish someone would come out with a slightly thicker paper towel MADE to wash dishes then toss!

I buy white CHEAP wash cloths and dish towels at Sam's and bleach the heck out of them. They don't last long but are cheap. We keep stacks of them under the sink and on a towel bar on the doors of that cabnet.

I use bar towels for wiping my hands and such while cooking; I think paper towels are wasteful and don't mind adding some bar towels to the laundry (I'm doing laundry anyway). I keep my bar towel slung over my shoulder while I'm prepping food and cooking. At the end of every day, my bar towel, dish towel and dish cloth (when dry) are thrown into the laundry.

I love Costco kitchen towels, have a huge pack of them....wash them every few days. They are so soft.

I really wish Dawn would bring back those disposable dish cloths

they had back in the 90's. ( Not sure exactly when ).

I loved those. They had a lot of soap in each one. Each one would

go a long way.

I don't know if that's causing the problem you're having, but you might want to stop using them anyway. Any kind of fabric softener, even the dryer sheets, put a coating on the fabric that causes them not to absorb liquid as well as they should. When I finally realized this several years ago, I washed all my towels & cloths several times in just plain hot water to get rid of that coating.

Yes I suppose that could be my problem. I put the towels in with my regular laundry, and like the dryer sheets for my clothes. I don't want to do a separate load with just a few towels and wash cloths. Oh well. Thanks for your reply!

every evening after I do the dinner cleanup I put the dishrag and towel in the wash and get out a clean set.

Wash cloths every day, hand towels at least every 3 days, depends on how dirty. Drying towels depends on if I actually use them or not.

I only use paper towels ... use it once and throw it away!
