topic Vitamix TSV Smoothie Container Question in Kitchen

This is probably a dumb question, or maybe I'm overthinking things. But is there anything else I should be doing with the flip-top lid? I can open it without any problem. Do you just drink out of the black "funnel"? I see the opaque plastic disc on the cover and on a "barb-like" "thingy" (sorry for the technical term) on the cover. Are they of any importance? Or is it merely just opening the cap and drinking from it. (Sorry for the dumb question!!!!)

Thanks!
