I'm always trying and I have two recent changes I've stuck with.

I love having a high fiber cereal for breakfast, and a couple of years ago I switched from regular milk to soy milk. A few months ago I switched from soy to almond milk, which is even better.

A few months ago, my daughter discovered kale. I thought, Uggg, but I didn't say anything and ate it with a smile just to reinforce her. Then, to my shock, I realized I like it.

Anyone else? Other ideas?

That's funny....I went from coconut/almond/rice milk back to soy. Unsweetened organic soy milk has just that...soybeans & water. Nothing else...healthier without additives.

My new thing is eliminating all the additives, flavorings & spices in food, tea, condiments and removing nuts from my diet. Learning to cook is way is stretching my culinary skills....luckily I have a good resource to make it easier. Happy 2015, NoelSeven!

I use hemp milk. Love almond milk but can't use it bc of allergy to tree nuts. Can't drink cows milk or soy. No dairy for me...allergic. Was advised by my alternative medical Dr to stay away from soy products. You can learn much at FOODBABE.com. I use quinoa a lot and absolutely love kale. Live gluten free and I'm always hunting for recipes to accommodate all my food allergies. David posted a great recipe for hot ratatouille which I'm going to try this weekend and modify where I need to but you could add kale to it very easily.

It lasted about three hours yesterday--right up until our neighbor brought a still-warm, huge, homemade loaf of white bread over for us. Since my thyroid went wonky last year, my cholestrol levels are just a pinch out of normal range...not crazy, but something I need to work on. Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's research has proven just removing the nuts & nut-based products is enough to decrease cholestrol levels in an otherwise clean plant-based diet. Just that one step made a huge difference.

Along with the 'can't eat just one' of those little buggers (ie. almonds), removing them will remove the craving, as well. Nuts, in nature, are to be eaten sporadically...I can eat a handful in 2 seconds...try cracking the shells & scraping the meat out of the same amount of whole nuts. We wouldn't do it. If a little is good, more isn't necessarily better.

It's just a detox process to reprogram my tastebuds. =:0. I got walnuts in the shell and my husband cracks a few at a time for us to put in salads.

We tried quinoa once and no one in the family liked it, but there weren't really any good recipes online at the time, so I'm going to see if I can find something tasty with that.

I'm sorry to hear you've had thyroid problems.

After a health scare and cholesterol numbers that need to come down, if I can't pronounce it, I don't eat it. I've been doing pretty well sticking to it the past few months and I feel so much better. I always do when I clean up my diet. Good Luck to everyone who's attempting a lifestyle change. It's not easy.

I do pretty well with cholesterol, but I can't take statins, so it's not as low as they could push it.

I feel better with a healthy diet, too Best of luck to you, too!

It's my Italian DNA.

I've been a little crazy with the sweets for the last few months. I need to get back to normal with that. Isn't it just amazing how addictive sugar is? I usually don't worry so much about stuff like fat (although I'm not a glutton or anything), but I keep the sugar consumption to a very strict minimum. I don't know how I fell off track with that.

I think avoiding SIMPLE carbs is more beneficial than any amount of low-fat eating. If I can get back to that I'm better off for it. Even though I live with chronic pain, it is much less when I'm not consuming simple carbs, particularly refined sugar.

It always blows me away how true that is. We had a birthday celebration over the holidays, which included cake. It takes awhile for the craving to go away, too.

Today I went cold turkey on all the holiday food and really upped my fiber. I just finished eating a thin sliced apple... slowly

Breakfast always, always enough water, more fiber from natural sources, which dovetails with more whole veggies and fruits. Enough calcium and vitamin D (easy - take some time to enjoy the outdoors). Portion control, and no, cheese is not dessert!!! Meditate on how good I feel when eating the things my body needs, not what my brain craves.

Unfortunately, yes, I have to make some changes. My doctor wants me to limit my sodium intake. I've had some health issues recently and salt is not my friend. It's horrible because I love to cook and never had to monitor the salt before. I've always been a person that can eat whatever they want so this is a challenge to be so disciplined. I've been keeping track and was shocked to find how some healthy and necessary foods have high levels of sodium, while others that I would expect to be high aren't so bad. I wish there was an eating plan where the doctor would say eat all the chocolate you like, and be sure to gets lots of ice cream each day. That I could gladly stick to.
