Here is my recipe that I have used for many years. My family devours these and they are a must at Christmas. Tips include letting the dough chill in the fridge overnight and not rolling the dough too thin. If you try the recipe, good luck and enjoy! Soft Sugar Cookies 2 1/4 cups flour 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup butter 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 2 T half & half 1 T vanilla Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Cream room temperature butter with sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add half of the dry ingredients and blend. Add half & half and vanilla, blend well. Add remaining dry ingredients and mix until smooth. Wrap and chill overnight. Roll out to about 1/4 inch thickness not more. Bake at 350 degrees about 9 minutes. Cool and decorate with frosting. Frosting 1 lb powdered sugar 1/4 tsp cream of tartar 3 egg whites 1/2 tsp almond or lemon extract

Try Italian sugar cookies. They are not rolled out and cut into shapes, so they are plumper than traditional American sugar cookies, but they are always soft!
