Where is a place to buy a good fruit cake?

I love,love ,love good fruitcake. I do not eat it now because it has so much sugar in it. I think it would be better to order it from a catalogue. One year we tried to buy it locally and couldn't find it anywhere.

My mom used to make a fruitcake especially for my dad. It had chocolate chips, dates and red and green cherries. It was delicious.

Harry and David are wonderful.....Williams and Sonoma.....The Vermont Country Store has several varieties. I have never ordered their baked goods, but I have been very happy with foods that I have ordered from them before. Somebody sells a pineapple macadamia nut fruitcake that I am either going to buy or make this year! Until then, DH bought my favorite grocery store brand: Claxton. I love it with a shmear of cream cheese. Poodlepet2

I think Claxton makes a pretty fantastic fruit cake, but I usually have to order it directly from them. It's almost impossible to find it in stores here in the Northeast.

Assumption Abbey made by Trappist monks. Their fruitcake is better than my grandma's!

The Claxton cakes are my choice. Every year our local Lion's Club sell these as a fundraiser item, so this becomes a very worthy cause for charity.

Hello Fromthebronx! DH went to Einstein and we moved from Morris Park to Rhinelander....I miss the Bronx-especially the Italian section with all of those wonderful cafes and restaurants....it's funny : I was just reminiscing about the good old days....there was this house that we could see from the back of our apt on Rhinelander: every December, they decorated big time-there was traffic all the way to Pelham Parkway lined up to see it! That's funny that you can't find Claxton in the NE: that's where I first became acquainted with it. I love it! Poodlepet2

Made mine first weekend in Nov. and now it is 'jucing' with Makers Mark.

This is NOT Claxton!!!

My grandmother used to make one and we couldn't find her recipe. Finally my mom found one that matches hers and all love it.

There is a difference between homemade and the ones you buy every year. (a Big one)

choc chips, that's an idea. I have never heard of that but I may just try it. Maybe in half of next years cake.

I would love to find a fruit cake that tastes more like homemade. I really don't like Claxton. Is there anything out there that tastes similar to homemade? I know nothing compares to homemade but I am just not a cook.

I don't have my recipe with me (at wk) but i will post it when I get home. You can try it &it may become a favorite.

I cannot believe nobody has posted Collin Street Bakery, Corsicana, Texas. The VERY VERY VERY BEST IMO. I won't eat any other kind. Can you saw YUM!!! I saw the Claxton on Q the other day. It looked like it had a lot of the candied fruit in it.

Colin Street Bakery, HANDS DOWN, has the finest fruitcake in the world. And Swiss Colony fruitcake is a very close second.

Puddinhill.com has the best fruitcake ever. Texas pecans, glaceed cherries, tropical pineapple, and golden raisins in a buttery cake batter. Very decadent and rich! They also have walnut fruitcakes which I love. They don't have Citrons and heavy spices in them, so if you like the old fashioned ones which are spicy and strong tasting, these aren't for you. I hated fruitcake till I had one of Puddinhill's.

Agreed! It's the only one we've bought for many years. It's moist and in a class all its own, not the usual dry bricks out there passing for fruitcake. I was happy to see that QVC is carrying it.

Me too. Actually I've always heard how gross fruit cakes were. You know, the jokes. LOL I have only eaten Collin Street fruit cakes and they are wonderful! I love slices served cold with whip cream on top and a cup of coffee! Yum!!!
