Does anyone here have a Kenmore Elite dishwasher?

It got the top rating in Consumer Reports. Does anyone here own this dishwasher?

There is no Kenmore manufacturing. Kenmore puts its name on products manufactured by Whirlpool, Fridgidare, GE, and the Korian Companies. Probably the best dishwasher in the market are: Bosch, and Kitchen Aid, which is a Whirlpool product. Go for the Bosch. My husband sells appliances and is very knowlegeable about them. He dictated that for me. Hope that helps.

I would have thought that, but Consumer Reports magazine lists the Kenmore Elite as the best of all - much higher rating than the Bosch. I wonder why.

I have all kenmore elite appliances in my kitchen, about 5 yrs now. When we were deciding on dishwasher I wanted a Bosch, salesman said it was equal to Bosch. I absolutely love it and since I own 2nd home with a Bosch dishwasher, you will not be disappointed. So quiet and spacious. My elite fridge is french door. No complaints.

Our Bosch is 11 years old and still runs like new!! Nice and quiet too! I use it almost every day!

Yes. It's now about 6 years old, and worked great for the first 4 years, but not so great the last two. I've tried cleaning it....took it apart to check for blockages....can't find any reason why it no longer cleans well.

I have to check carefully as I remove items, and I always need to further clean at least half a dozen things out of each load, especially if they've been on the top rack.

I have one and love it!! Why pay for the name brand when you can get the Kenmore version of an appliance at a much better value. I was never a Kenmore owner before this purchase and I have since then bought a Kenmore double convection oven last year. I subscribe to CR and they have never steered me wrong. Also I extensively research products and merchants prior to making purchases to ensure that I'm an informed consumer. Hope this helps!

This is what happened with the Frigedair I have now. DH and I have tried everything we can think of, but we can't fix it.

Can I ask what kind of soap you use? I'm wondering if the gel pacs I used had anything to do with it. I've used Finish Gel Pacs for the last couple of years.

Yes, I have all kenmore elite appliance and they work great! The dishwasher is great too! I thought about Bosch, but learned they don't have heated drying. I was worried about always opening the dishwasher to wet dishes. I'm sure that must not be a huge issue because they are a top rated brand that has been around a long time as well.

I have a dishwasher and am not happy with it. It's stainless with a stainless inside. Has lots of bells and whistles. But I'm not pleased with it.

One day, I started a load of dishes and then went down to the basement to use the treadmill. When I was finished, I came back up into the living room and smelled melted plastic. The dishwasher's electronic "motherboard" had started to melt. Called the repair person and he said that happens a lot with Kenmore. He replaced the motherboard and it's been OK.

But I don't think it cleans all that well sometimes and we've taken the thing apart and can't find anything. We keep getting holes in the line to the rinse agent, so we use a ton of rinse agent. We're on our second silverware holder because the first one pretty much disintegrated....holes in the bottom where it looks like it melted. We don't put any knives in the dishwasher, so it's not from that. We bought another one (from eBay, of all places) and it's lasted longer than the original one.

I wouldn't buy another one.

I have all the Kenmore Elite appliances. They came with out house that was built in 2009. I like it just fine. It is so quiet you can hardly hear it at all. I will say that with two of us, I don't use it as if I had a family. Most times I just wash dishes by hand.

The appliance that was SOOOO.... disappointing was the refrigerator. Twice the ice maker jammed so bad, the repairman had to come out. He advised us that if it happened a third time, there was a "lemon law" and we would be entitled to a new fridge. Well...last Christmas we decided to buy a new fridge as a present to ourselves. We originally had a side by side but got the French doors with the bottom fridge and ice/water dispenser on the outside of the fridge. It was another Kenmore but the price was too good to pass up. So far....it's all good.

I have one called a Kenmore. It works perfectly, as long as you soak every single thing that goes into it in hot soapy water and rinse thoroughly before you fill it. Otherwise, it creates modern art sculptures of food waste and decorates all of the dishes and flatware before they are removed, and they become solid pieces, suitable for painting, with gravy perhaps, that will last 'till long after I am gone. Mine was one of the most expensive that was sold. I wish I could sabotage it and get rid of it, but I don't want to replace it until I'm positive there isn't something worse that we could get snookered into buying. By the way, it IS a Kenmore "Elite" (snort).

Appliances are not made as well as yesteryear. It's a crying shame too since they're expensive and don't work as good or last as long.

The last, and I mean LAST Kenmore appliance we bought was a Consumer Reports top rated item was a joke. It stopped working in about 4 months and since hundreds of thousands of the same appliance ALL had the same defect there was not enough parts available to fix the problem. Sears answer was "sorry, when we get more parts we will fix it, but it could be months...."

Unfortunately they had no idea who they were dealing with.

To date (5 years) everyone one of our Kenmore top rated appliances have cost over $1000.00 in repairs. We built a house and bought all new appliances at the same time. It is just the 2 of use and we are not hard on appliances.

My BFF bought a Bosch, it was expensive and it is quite and WHEN it works she loves it. It has had one problem after another and the closest authorized repair is almost 2 hours away. They come to our area only a few times a month. (no we do not live in the sticks)

I have come to the conclusion through our experience and others, it does not matter what you buy today, it is not made to last. Buy what you can comfortable afford to repair and replace.

When I first got my elite (Bosch) dishwasher it wasn't drying and cleaning properly. I called and they said use only cascade. I did and have never had a problem 6 yrs later. Finish left residue etc. only buy the kenmore elite line.

In the area I live in, the service department for Sears doesn't have a very good reputation. That might be something you would want to consider as well.

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback. Your comments made me decide to keep this purchase on hold for a while. I've been managing without one for a year now, I can continue to do so.

Like some of you have said, things are no longer made to last. I have had so many disappointments the last couple of years. I don't want to make a major purchase like that and be sorry.

Like a few other posters on this thread think, I don't care if you buy an expensive or cheap dishwasher, none of them last any time at all, and if they do, it is almost a fluke. You can get good ones or bad ones in any brand and at any cost. We just put in a new dishwasher a year and a half ago. Bought a GE for around $400. If it stops working in a few years (which we expect), we will just go buy a new dishwasher. Overall, that's cheaper than having one repaired or buying an extended warranty. And if we get several years use out of it, then good for us.

Concerning what soap to use, this new dishwasher recommended Cascade Complete pacs. I was using the Finish pacs, and getting horrible results...residue left on dishes and kind of an orange stain on them...it was so strange. I thought it was the old dishwasher, but it continued with the new one. When I ran out, I bought the Cascade Complete pacs, and the problem stopped immediately. They are expensive, but they work, and as a bonus, I don't even need to use spot remover with it so don't have that expense. We live in the city but don't have a softener, so I'm not sure why I don't need to use a spot remover, but I just count my blessings on that.

Btw...I have a friend right now whose dishwasher is kaput, and they are waiting for a repairman to come on Tuesday. Guess what kind it is? Yup...Kenmore Elite...

We do extensive research on appliances. We bought a dishwasher last year. We were considering the Sears Elite, but the sale wasn't as good as what we got which is the KitchenAid. We didn't want the Bosch no matter how good it is because it didn't have as much space inside. I think the Bosch has the European style re the space. We love our KitchenAid. It is very spacious. It really gets the dishes clean. Considering dishwashers use less water now, it actually gets them much cleaner than our old dishwasher. Don't get an LG. My sister got one and hates it and paid a lot of money for an over-rated product. It doesn't get any of her dishes clean. We don't even use any special rinsing products or anything. We expected to hate any new brand, but we're pleased. Plus, it's so quiet.

I have this dishwasher and have had it about 4 years now. BEST DISHWASHER EVER! My husband and I have moved around a lot and I am PICKY about dishwashers. When we buy a house I have whatever is there removed and replaced with whatever is supposed to be the best at the time. I not only don't soak dishes, I don't rinse them and barely scrap them. I don't wash anything by hand. I have had every kind of top dishwasher and this one is the BEST! Everything always comes clean and glasses are sparkling. I do agree nothing seems to last like they used to, but if mine dies I will get this one again.
