Did the turkey thaw out in time to cook? I hope yours did. There are few things worse than checking the turkey on Wednesday night and being afraid things are NOT going well!

The only time we had a turkey not brown was when we had guests from out of state. I was frantic and the turkey looked like it had been scared to death--it was ghost white! I finally did something and got it browned but it was a frantic time. Lots of smiling in the living room and slipping back into the kitchen--that sort of thing.

I have a 12lb turkey and put it in the refrigerator Sunday night too. I checked it earlier today and it still felt a little frozen, but I think it will be thawed by morning. I don't plan on putting it in the oven until 10am so if Mr Bird still needs to thaw I'll just soak him in cold water for a couple hours. Hope everyone's turkeys work out, and that you all have a happy, delicious, and relaxing Thanksgiving.

That's one of the reasons I gave up on turkeys. I was always afraid that big bad bird would not defrost enough and then not get done in the oven. Last year I bought a Bella turkey roaster. I was leery to try it, but determined to have the oven free to cook other things. The roaster pulled so much wattage, it tripped the breakers where I had it plugged in but I did not know it until later. Needless to say, the turkey got shoved in the oven to cook and it took forever. Never again! My family was sure they were going to starve to death. This year I bought a turkey breast, but am not cooking it for Thanksgiving. We are eating Asian!

You can still have success even if part of your turkey is still frozen. Just have to keep it in the oven longer. Enjoy!

We have a 24-pounder and I took it out of the freezer on Saturday. I've been turning him every morning in the fridge. We're having our Thanksgiving dinner on Friday (we got 11 inches of snow on Wednesday and that was enough to change our dinner plans). I will get the turkey out tonight, wash him out, and then stick him in his brine overnight. I'm thinking he'll be thawed out by tonight. If not, running cold water will do the trick in short order.

I have a 6.89 pound duck-it was supposed to be closer to 8-9 lb.s and it came frozen solid. I thought I would be safe if I began the defrosting Monday morning. As of 11 PM last night, it was slightly defrosted. After tossing and turning, at 3:30AM, I made the executive decision to cold water and ice defrost-which I have done before. I think we will be fine, but I know the next time I order, start defrosting before. I am more disappointed with the size: I could have bought two 5 lb. ducks at the grocery and saved on shipping....on the other hand, I did need to replenish our duck bacon and duck fat supply Poodlepet2 (formerly Poodlepet)

Hey Everyone! If you are baking your chicken/turkey (not deep frying!) you can actually put it frozen into the oven......really! Just allow for extra baking time, maybe an hour or two depending on the size. I always bake my chicken breasts frozen, and they turn out moist and delicious. I also bake fish that's frozen.

Do everything the same as usual: butter it, rub it with oil, etc......and cover tightly with aluminum foil.

Definitely don't roast/bake frozen poultry!

Glad those who bought frozen turkeys were able to take them out early enough to thaw. I think there are time charts for this, or probably even information on the wrapping it comes in, no? There's probably a per pound thawing time chart.

I buy fresh, so I didn't have to deal with that. I ordered mine last Tuesday and picked it up on Monday - ready for brining Tuesday night and roasting yesterday (Wed).
