David wine tasting

Why does David hold his wine glass by the base? No one does that. He correct way is by the stem of the glass. You never hold the bowl of the glass because your hand will warm the wine. But he looks ridiculous holding it by the base. I suppose he thinks he's an expert like he does with everything.

Oh the horror, by the base? Qvc should fire him! Why do you post such absurdly mean posts? You SOUND ridiculous with such ridiculousness. David is a kind and thoughtful person. You would be so lucky to call him friend.

Petty much? Fact - he's a BIG GUY with BIG HANDS and while you and most people hold their wine glass by the stem, big fellas find it easier to hold the base and stem. My hubby was a big guy and held his wine glass the same way.

Is that some kind of rule or law he has broken? Are you some kind of expert on holding a glass of wine?

He looks no more ridiculous than this topic sounds.

I have been to a number of tutored wine tastings conducted by sommeliers -- sommeliers who have held the glass by the base.

When tasting wine, one frequently wishes to open up the bouquet to appreciate the aromas. Swirling is frequently done utilizing the base.

Thank you KYToby! I was going to say the same thing. I too have seen many sommeliers (in Napa Valley and local wine tastings as well) hold the glass by the BASE or stem for just that reason -- in fact, many more by the base. There is no rule, but definitely a preference for some.

Wouldn't it be nice if some people expand their world with just asking the question, without casting criticisms and insults?

Hello, catlover53.

David has pretty big hands. I think if held the wine glass the other way, it might have felt awkward or strange. Plus, his hands may have hidden the contents of the glass (the wine) from the viewers line of vision. The way he held it made it where we could actually see him tasting the wine for ourselves so there's no smoke and mirrors, so we don't think that he's faking a reaction for tv and he's actually tasting the wine.

That's just my take on it, anyway. I'm no wine expert. Happy Thanksgiving.

Appears to be some who want others to think they are so high class because they criticize how a host holds his wine glass and KNOW how to properly hold a wine glass because they go to tutored wine tastings conducted by sommeliers -- and have seen many sommeliers (in Napa Valley and local wine tastings as well).

Who cares and I also agree that to hold it any other way than he did would not have showcased the wine he was selling!!!
