Butter was $2.29 a pound at Aldi today. Lowest price I've seen in a while.

That's a great price. I have a cousin who buys Land o' Lakes brand only, no matter what the price. I can't tell the difference.

Thanks, this is great for baking. Normally at this time of year I see butter on sale 2/$5 but not this year so far. I do prefer Land o Lakes or Hotel Bar but they are $5.99 lb here! Everything is getting so expensive. I finally saw turkey hill egg nog at my store yesterday and picked it up for hubby, I know it's expensive but didnt expect to look at my receipt and see 6 dollars!!

I only prefer Cabot butter, but have had to resort to cheaper butter.......that I now only use for baking, and the Cabot for eating on my potatoes, and squashes and such, that are not baked goods........

That's a really good price, considering what butter is going for in the regular grocery stores. I have an Aldi's a few miles away and will get there on the weekend.

Yep, Mom said it's almost $6/lb up in NE PA. At Aldi here it's abut $3.50/lb. Too bad I can't send her some!!

During the year I fill my freezer with cheap butter. You get it cheap around a holiday. But not this year. I have seen butter at 3.98 lb.

Best price I've seen for LOL is $3/lb this week at Meijer. So I bought 10lbs for the freezer so far.

I tried a less expensive brand they carried called ""Challenge"". OMG. I tried melting for a recipe and each time it explodes!. Too much water content.

I do pick up a couple of European butters for holiday dinners.

I treated myself to a French butter called President recently. It was delicious. Ill stock up at Aldis too for Christmas baking, thanks for the tip.

WOW, that's fantastic! I get mine from Costco, 4-1# packages/$10.99 and felt that was pretty darn good since I've been seeing ads for around $4.00, which is ridiculous!

I'm hoping to see a sale for LOL in the next week. I'm seeing them for 4-5 a lb. I usually stock up and I'm getting antsy.

Best deal of the fall - a free pound of butter when I spent $15 at my local stop and shop. I don't even know why they started sending me those coupons, but I was happy while it lasted. One week butter, another eggs, a third was O.J., $2 off produce, etc.

Most of the time deals don't work well for single shoppers, but that one required so little I could use that one.

I see LOL 1.99 lb in my Stop and Shop starting tomorrow Friday. Hope it isn't one of those where there are attachments to the deal.

I look on the ingredient list on the box and it's just sweet cream and salt (or no salt).

Don't they all taste the same? What's your favorite brand or do you just buy whatever is on sale.

for regular old butter i buy a 4 pack from sams club.

for extra special butter i usually buy kerrygold irish butter (my favorite)......yes, you CAN taste a difference. plugra and president are also good high quality butters. i also buy butter from the amish.

The only differences could be the way they're graded or organic/non-GMO compared to "regular" that isn't labeled as organic and may contain GMO's. That said, if ingredients are the same and they're graded the same, butter is butter. I've bought name brand and I've bought house brands and they're all fine so I get what's best for my budget.

I've tried different brands. I like Horizon Organic but it's getting very tough to find here since prices started to climb. When I can't find organic I switched to LOL. Not organic by any means but I like the taste and it melts well for cooking.

Seriously, when I tried "Challenge" it explodes in the microwave no matter how carefully or low temp I try. Too much water content which justifies the cheaper price.

I do buy a couple of European butters during the holidays. The most widely available is Plugra. European butters are higher butterfat and less water. I got it on sale for $2.59/8oz brick.

Yes, there is a difference. Butter from bottom dollar is the worst. I've had store brands for shoprite, acme and pathmark and they are all fine.

I was not familiar with Aldi's we don't have them, although from the sound of it I wish we did. Since it is that baking time of year, I have been on the look out for good deals on butter, here is what I found, maybe it will help.

Walmart has some good deals on butter (it might vary depending on your area and store): Land o Lakes Butter 2lb 2 pack $6.48

Great Value (Walmart Brand) 2lb 2 pack $4.98

Challenge Butter 1lb $3.98

Tillamook Butter 1lb $3.98

I have also been comparing prices of 8oz packages too (Safeway has them for $2.79 per package 2 of those is 50 cents less than buying a one pound package still pricey but something to look out for no matter where you shop). I have also found really good deals on butter, eggs, milk, sugar, flour etc at CVS and Walgreens.
