Kind of like going to Macy's or Nordstrom, no? All the clerks ask the same questions and show their wares. What exactly people who watch for hours on end expect to hear, I certainly can't imagine!

I doubt the hosts are as bored as OP thinks. There's so much they have to accomplishe within however many minutes they have for each item, I can't imagine they're bored. BTW, they make it seem as if they're in charge of the timing - I don't think so. I believe they work against a countdown clock, either in front of them or, more likely, in their earpieces.

I think it's a tough job and a tight rope to walk. They must, of course, make sure to mention certain things about the product, but if they start ad-libbing with personal stories, the criticism is sure to start here on the forums. I do think its a more difficult job than it seems to the casual viewer.

I don't think even QVC ever dreamed that people would watch QVC endlessly, hour after hour day after day. The presentations must present all the same information so people who only watch a particular program get the same info as someone who watches a different presentation with a different host. If you're seeing so much repetition, I think that's a sign that you're watching to much QVC!

Sometimes I watch presentations on products and wonder why obvious selling points aren't mentioned. I watch the presentations for the Kitchen Aid Stand Mixers and I have not yet heard what I like best about the Kitchen Aid. I cook and bake with my nieces and nephews and the Kitchen Aid stand mixer settles the argument of who gets to hold the mixer. Before I got the KA stand mixer I worked with the KA hand held, and back before I knew better, I let my five year old hold the mixer with me- BIG MIStAKE! We hit an air pocket, dough flew on the wall, and I had my five year old nephew crying because he didn't get his turn to hold the mixer. That one is on me, QVC hosts- Cooking with kids, someone who is disabled, or someone with limited hand dexterity are terrific reasons for a KA stand mixer.

I started watching Q back when it had just become Q, and shows were more personable, and before the use of .com, and you wished on the more rare cooking shows they would present X item.......The quality of the items was much better......THEY were not shipping and handling hoarders........The rare kitchen shows meant so much more.....Diamonique was there big seller, with more of those items........2 hour shows were considered the "long shows"......They really gave a viewer more excitement over a show, and not the same old same old......I remember when Tfal, and Nesco were the big sellers, and so long in between presentations....No shows showing just one item or brand at a time......Maybe they should go back to that.........Then the 50 in 50 tour, and cook books were more personable, rather than what they are today......more recipes from numerous people, not just one person...I long for those days to come back..........

Babies, they come back.

My guess is it's a combination.
There are a number of people who would love to be a host for the Q. I am certain they receive a number of job request daily. So many people are unable to work, are still without a job or still recovering from the downward economy. The number of actual hosts is a small subset and new talent is always just around the corner. It would be hilarious if a hosts did not appreciate how lucky they are and lost their position due to such behavior.

It's like any job where you deal with the public and have to repeat the same information over and over during the course of a day. I had to interview people all day long and there were times when I would have to pause and stop to think if I had already touched on one required point or if I hadn't told them that bit of information yet. It's not an easy thing to do, to keep the information fresh and engage your audience, and not appear bored while delivering the same information for the twentieth time in the day.
