Found this one that says it's pretty close to Longhorn's. http://kickingcarbs.blogspot.com/2011/02/slow-cooker-low-carb-longhorn.html

1 1/2 lbs ground beef

1 onion, diced

2 jalapenos, diced

2 tbsps. chili powder

1tbsp. cumin powder

1 red pepper, cut into large chunks

1 sweet onion quartered

1 can diced tomatoes

1 jar medium salsa (any brand)

2 tbsps. olive oil

Shredded cheddar cheese for garnish

Tip: Remember to not touch your eyes or other sensitive areas after handling jalapenos.

Instructions
1. Saute onion and jalapenos in olive oil in a pan over medium heat.

2. Add chili and cumin once the onion and jalapenos have started to brown. Stir.

3. Add ground beef, being careful not to mince it into small chunks. You want some small meatball sized pieces of beef, not finely ground beef, chunks make for a nicer chili. Brown for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring gently.

4. Transfer beef, onion, jalapenos and spices to a slow cooker. Gently stir in tomatoes, salsa, red pepper and onion.

Tip: Put some water in your pan for easier cleaning.

5. Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.

This sounds really good, and I've long heard that Texas chili is served without beans, but exactly how is it served? I've had chili served over pasta and rice, and so on, is this version usually served with something else?

Yes, Texas chilli is no beans. Just serve with a sleeve of saltines. No to pasta or rice!!

Also, so diced onions on top.

Is 'Longhorn' a brand name, or a style, or (?). I'm just curious. I've had various chili recipes over the years and even written a few of my own but I don't know what the Longhorn part of it means.

I like to take out either my 13.25qt Le Creuset pot or my 9qt and make a huge amount when I make something like this. Then I portion it out, freeze it into portion-size blocks, and then vacuum seal it and you have chili in the freezer for a couple of years.

Longhorn is short for a steakhouse here in CT. It's primarily a steakhouse and it's the best for steak, chicken, chili as a side dish, etc. Actually, anything I've eaten there has been great. Their bread is also the best. Sometimes, I'll rave about it to our wait person and they'll send me home with a small loaf gratis!!!

Longhorn is part of the Darden Restaurant Group. They have been opening in the Phx AZ area and seem to be good. We have not had any complaints when visiting. The one by our house also has a small bar area - if you like a drink before dinner. Also have nice specials at times.

Thank you for requesting this, I am always on the look out for new recipes and not only did I find the recipe you are looking for, but a really neat website called recipesecrets.net

Longhorn Steakhouse Chili
Makes 4 servings Cook: 1 hour 20 minutes

1 large onion, diced
2 stalks celery, diced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 pound ground beef
2 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp fresh chopped oregano leaves or 1 tsp dried
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp red pepper sauce
1 can (16 oz) whole tomatoes, undrained
1 can (15 or 16 oz) red kidney beans, undrained
shredded cheddar cheese
sour cream
whole chili pepper

Peel and dice the onion. Dice the celery. Peel
and crush the garlic.
Cook the beef, onion, celery and garlic in the
saucepan over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes,
stirring occasionally, until beef is brown; drain.
Stir in chili powder powder, oregano, salt,
pepper sauce and tomatoes with their liquid,
breaking up the tomatoes with a spoon or fork.
Heat the mixture to boiling over high heat.
Once mixture is boiling, reduce heat just enough
so mixture bubbles gently. Cover and cook
1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Stir in the beans with their liquid. Heat to
boiling over high heat. Once mixture is
boiling, reduce heat just enough so mixture
bubbles gently. Cook uncovered about 20 minutes,
stirring occasionally, until desired thickness.
Garnish with shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream and
whole chili pepper.
Source: Shawn Panuline, general manager at Longhorn Steakhouse in Spartanburg, SC - published in the Spartanburg, SC - Herald-Journal newspaper, Jan 17, 2001

It does sound really good, may have to try it this weekend.

Enjoy

tkins

Tkins, Thank you so very much for the recipe -- especially for writing it all down. One glitch -- our Longhorn does not add beans to their chili. I'm sure I can try it without the beans. That web site looks interesting.

coffee drinker, You are very welcome. I did find one other recipe and I went to their website and discovered at the very bottom of the page at the far right under FIND they have a recipe section and I didn't see the chili recipe there, but I bet if you email them they might send it to you. Here is the other recipe I found (the page I got it off of had the same picture and information as the restaurant website so maybe it is the same).

1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup diced onion
1/2 cup green pepper
2 teaspoons oregano
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 tablespoons texas pete
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
1 (15 oz) can crushed tomatoes

Brown ground beef; combine browned beef with all remaining ingredients in a large stockpot and simmer for 2 hours until ready to serve.

tkins
