New Ninja TSV

Got an email about the New Ninja 4 in 1 cooker TSV coming up

I can't figure out the difference between the old 3 in 1 cooker and the new 4 in 1

Can someone help me?

It now includes a steamer function.

Can you give me the details? Price, size, etc? I can't find my email for it and I actually just broke our crock pot this past week and need a replacement. Can't decide if I should wait for this one?

The steamer function is nothing new: it was there from the beginning. I love it for chicken: you brown the chicken in the Ninja, then put it on the roasting rack and pour some broth in and steam roast: I have never done a beef roast in in, but I am sure it would be delicious. I am not impressed with it when it comes to using it as a slow cooker or crock pot. I tried it following their directions, and the results were not the same. There is a hole in the lid to let steam escape, and people have said they plugged it, but I can just imagine the mess. Steam baking is amazing-and it's true, you use half the fat that you normally would. Poodlepet

EXACTLY what I thought about the steamer function when I got the pre-order email. I am very curious to see the presentation.

I think that they are now counting the browning as a function, where they didn't before. And are they adding a carrying case?

It appears that the steaming function is what they consider to be new. From the pre-order email: "This one unit does the jobs of your oven, stovetop, slow cooker--and now, your steamer!" Yes -- there is a "travel bag" now included.

I don't know what they are talking about: the Browning ability was always there as well. It's been awhile since I got mine, but it came with a small loaf pan, a small square pan, a steaming/roasting rack and mitts...I don't remember if it came with the device for piercing meat to remove it. I didn't get a case... I want to see this presentation. Poodlepet

This one has a glass lid and does not appear to have a vent. I didn't want the one with the metal lid and vent, as I thought for slow cooking letting out steam would be bad. I'll have to watch the presentation.

I think the plus is the ability to brown, roast and bake, unlike the crockery slow cookers.

I don't have the Ninja, but have the Wolfgang Puck Versacooker (similar to the Ninja, but apparently has been discontinued) and use it all the time.

Does anyone know when the Ninja 4 in 1 will be offered on QVC? I'd be interested in seeing the presentation...

Triscath, I do like the Ninja and find it useful and easy to use, but when I want to slow cook-high or low, I bring out my good old Rival Crock pot....there is nothing like a good old traditional crock pot IMO. In some of the catalogues I get, like Chef's choice, I have seen what are called "multi-cookers": Cuisinart comes to mind, but I have never taken the time to investigate. Poodlepet

I have an earlier version..the 3 in 1. I have to say that it is about the best kitchen purchase I have ever made. Use it all the time..works like a charm. I don't see a comparison to a crock pot. This has so many more functions. I would be lost w/o it. HTH

I think you can "steam" anything in the old 3 in 1! Just put the food on the rack, add some water in the bottom and there you have it! The only thing is that because there is a hole in the lid, more liquid escapes and you may have to watch it closer.

I like my 3 in 1 but the only thing disappointing is that no matter what oven setting you choose, it cooks like it is on 400!! The lowest setting is 275 I think, or maybe 250 but let me tell you, I cannot tell that by the way it cooks.

I usually start something on the "stove-hi" to brown then finish on "stove-low" to finish.

BooBoo, I don't like using it as a crock pot because of that low-end I am not happy plugging it up. I tried making pot roast and when I make pot roast -in the crock pot or pressure cooker- I want it fork tender: I did not get that result with the Ninja. Poodlepet
