Talk about shock!!!!!!!!!!

Granted, I have not been in the real world since some time in June.......I have had some major medical issues, and continue to do so, but it was time for me to go to the grocery store, as I do have to travel about 45-50 miles, one way, to do so........ Well, I had to go to my local MD yesterday, for a regular visit, and I went to Walmart to restock canned goods, and SAMS for fruits, meats, and household essentials, and Publix, for things that I like that I can get no place else, and between the 3, I spent almost $900........ I was not aware of the prices that food and such had gone up to.........Needless to say........It made me sick all over again....... I live alone......I am one person, and can understand how families are finding it difficult to eat, but do not understand how they can afford fast food prices, instead of eating at home.........It made me understand the struggle of families to eat.........

forrestwolf, I am sorry to read about your health troubles. I hope you are feeling better. There have been threads started asking about you. There are three in my family, and yes it is so very expensive. Every time I make a stop into the grocery stores it is $200.00, and I am in there about three times a week. I shop at a local Market Street, Walmart, and some at Sprouts. We do have plenty to eat, but I can see where people could easily struggle to buy. We also have two kitties, and they of course require only the best. Lol. You feel better soon.

Yes,food prices are very high.That is really sad because we have so many farmers and great land in this USA but we buy most our foods (and almost everything) from other countries.I guess that is what brings prices up.

My heart goes out to young families with lots of mouths to feed. Someone in Gov better wake up before it gets to late to solve our own problems .

I think my daughters whole paycheck goes for food for her family.

I have never spent that much either. I allow $100 a week for groceries, dogfood & paper goods. I live alone too & never spend it all. Yesterday I spent $44 for the week on food including hamburger for spaghetti, a strip steak, salmon fillet, 4 chicken thighs & center cut of lamb, veggies, water & a few misc items. $900 would feed me for months.

Yes the food prices have certainly gone up. How many weeks did you buy groceries for? I usually stick to good old Aldi and if I buy meat it will be from an independent grocer.

If I buy cheese or meat for sandwiches it will be from a local deli that sells it for about 3 dollars a pound. Snacks for lunch come Big Lots too.

Forrestwolf, I am happy to see you are back. Notice she said re-stock, that's like starting from scratch. I can easily see this amount if you haven't been shopping for a long time. Just go add up the amount of what is on your frig door. I did it for the heck of it and hit over $75.00. That's jam, ketchup, pickles, etc. Maybe if I get my nerve up I'll go add up my pantry. Fresh food? I already know that's high because of the massive increases in fish and beef.

straitgirl, If you look at the weeks since I have been, $900 would be what you have spent at $100/week....MatleseMomma, yes I do remember you, and no......I still have a way to go........just glad to be in my OWN home again.......Tissyanne.....Thank you.....Thanks to all............ To save on groceries I cannot vegetables,fruits,have two herb gardens,not to mention my in laws do the same and help us,oh by the way ,I PAY all the bills with my disable check for my husband and I I with epilepsy and husband with severe back issues.

I'm single/live alone but I call all of my own meals and snacks, I don't eat out, I bring my lunch on the days I go into the office.

I spend $150 a week at Wegmans and about $30 at Target/Costco or some other store for the few things I can't get at Wegmans or are much cheaper elsewhere.

We're a family of 4, and we don't spend that much in a week, even with 2 teenage boys.

We also don't have to travel any distance for our groceries. I go to Trader Joe's every few months by choice. It's 30 miles away.

DH is a fast food fanatic. He says that he can get a value item with loose change.

HOW do you spend $30 at Costco?

Or, better yet, how do you leave Costco without spending at least $100?

Understand........Yes, I spent this in one week, but I have not shopped for anything since June........My freezer and cabinets echoed when I opened them, and I eat a lot of fruit...which is worth it's price in GOLD.........

I shop at Costco, Trader Joe's and a relatively expensive local market for produce, fish and meat. I do not buy processed foods so that saves some. My usual dinner is a protein and green salad. I go to Costco about once a week, Trader Joe's every two weeks or so and the local market a couple of times a week.

I've never spent that much to "restock." I have a huge upright freezer & "restock" meats every 6 months. The most I've spent is $350.00/meats only. I get all my meats from Acme.

For weekly shopping I go to Bottom Dollar - $50-$75

Or Shoprite - $75-$100

Bulk Paper goods I go to BJ's when I get the FREE 60 days membership coupons - $50

Yes food has gone up considerably. I realized this when my teenage grandson spent a few weeks with me for the summer. My total food bill for 3 1/2 weeks did run close to $900. I told my daughter & SIL that the next time he comes to visit for that long, I'm gonna have to apply for food stamps for the length of his visit.

Prices are outrageous here also, of course, it depends on where one lives as to how expensive things are, but everything has gone up everywhere. We pay more for less. I can't understand how people eat out all of the time either, fast food or restaurants.

Hamburger, has went way up and I live in cow country, Amarillo, Tx. Meat, is tough, thank God I got pressure cookers coming out the wazoo. LOL

Car gas has went way down to like 2.95 a gallon. Electric is what kills us ! they get an increase everytime they sneeze. Makes us so mad we could scream out loud. Heating gas isn't bad, though.

By the way, Phyllis Newman escaped the hospital and is now hitching a ride back to G City, Wis. LOL Ain't that a toot ? LOL

Mariah, thinks she heard Sharon say while she was dreaming that "Faith is not Nick's child" she ran to Victor to tell him, now, Victor is gonna do his own DNA test by stealing Faith and Nick's hair. LOL They keep the DNA lab busy there in Genoa City LOL

I'm a Costco shopper so it's no surprise to me when I wheel my cart out of the store having spent over $300 and that happens every 10 days to two weeks or so mixed in with a quick stop at a grocery store during that time to pick up milk, cold cuts and a few other items I can't get at Costco. I have a side by side refrigerator/freezer in my kitchen that I couldn't get one more thing into, a very large upright freezer in the garage that's also pretty well stuffed and a bar 'fridge in the basement (small but good for overflow).

For my groceries I have a 48" floor to ceiling pantry in my kitchen, the bottom of a very large built in bar in my basement plus a cabinet on the middle level of the basement steps that holds extra groceries.

We're only 2 people in this house and yet you would think I was feeding an army. I have no idea where this kind of food mentality comes from...I need an intervention,
