Don't ask how it happened as I don't know but I made chocolate pudding this morning and it burned. It is stuck to the bottom of my Farberware pot. I've tried everything to remove it but to no avail. I have a Scrub Daddy and let it get stiff and hard but that didn't even budge the chocolate. I tried Barkeeper's Friend...nothing. Steel wool...nothing. It's my favorite pot and the one I use every single day. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting my pot cleaned? Thank you so much in advance. docsgirl Next time I'll be making instant pudding!

I'm not sure. Do you think if you heated it up a bit to get it warm it might wipe out? If it's stainless steel here is info on how to remove from ehow.

Instructions

Baking Soda and Salt Method

Scrape away as much burned chocolate as possible using a strong, large spoon. Be careful to not scratch your pot.

Fill your burned pot a quarter of the way full with hot water. You can use more water if this does not sufficiently cover the burned area.

Add 1/2 to 1 cup baking soda and 1/2 to 1 cup of salt and stir with a wooden spoon. The amount will depend on the size of the pot. Be sure to add enough baking soda and salt to make the water cloudy.

Place the pot on your stove on high heat and bring to a boil. As the water boils, continue to stir the mixture. Use your spoon to scrape and loosen the burned debris. This typically takes about 5 minutes.

Pour the water and loosened debris through a colander. This will keep the burned debris from clogging your sink.

Scrub the pot with a scouring pad and hot water to remove the remaining debris. Rinse well with hot water.

Vinegar and Dish Soap Method

7. Scrape away as much burned chocolate as possible using a strong, large spoon. Be careful to not scratch your pot.

8. Fill the pot with enough hot water to cover the burned area.

9. Add 1 cup vinegar and 2 to 3 drops liquid dish soap. Stir well.

10. Let the pot soak for 24 hours.

11. Place the pot on your stove over low heat and periodically scrape the burned area with a wooden spoon.

12. Pour the water mixture and loosened debris through a colander to prevent your sink from clogging. If there is still a great deal of stuck debris, repeat Steps 2 through 5. Otherwise, simply finish cleaning the pot with a scouring pad and hot water.

Read more : http://www.ehow.com/how_5610648_remove-chocolate-stainless-steel-pot.html

I have a metal scrubbie for those type of problems with my pans. if you don't have that maybe try some aluminum foil bunched up? Of course soak in hot water. Just a thought.

Thank you all for your very helpful suggestions. I tried boiling it with Dawn but that did not help. I used a Brillo Pad and that did nothing. Right now I am so exhausted from fighting with it that I don't want to look at it. I will definitely try your suggestions tomorrow and will let you known the results. Once again, thank you so much. docsgirl

To remove this kind of scorching, bring a solution of water, white vinegar, and Dawn detergent to a boil, then let soak for several days----you may even need to repeat this procedure. Remember, what you are trying to remove is burned into the pot surface; it is not just something that can be scraped off the surface, but is actually etched into the pot. Therefore, you need patience, and long term soaking to achieve success.

I seriously pondered tossing the pot but it's my favorite and most used. There were so many great suggestions and I thank all of you.

RedTop, I did exactly what you said. I boiled all and let it sit for the better part of the day. I didn't let it sit overnight as I was anxious to see if there would be any removal of the mess. After a bit of scrubbing with my steel wool pad, lo and behold, I have a brand new pan. It's a miracle. You would never know there was anything stuck in there. Thank you so much. While it will be instant pudding for me from now on, I'll keep this tip for the future. Thanks to all of you, again. docsgirl

Interesting thread. Today, I started cooking green beans and stepped outside to pick a couple of flowers. Well, I got carried away and the beans burned onto the pan. I tried a couple things and scrubbed a lot. Most of it is gone. I am now letting it dry. Sometimes it is easier to clean if it is dry. Maybe it will flake off.

Let us know what works for you.

Katey,

There isn't an exact recipe, but for a bad scorch, I suggest filling the pot halfway with water, add a good hard squirt of Dawn, and at least half a cup of white vinegar. Bring to a full boil, turn off the heat, soak, and let the Dawn and vinegar go to work to break down the scorched food. Again, if the scorching is really bad, you may need to soak that pot for 24 hours, and even repeat the process. This has never failed me.
