Chef Tony's nails?

I think he's very personable on air. Close-ups of his hands are not as agreeable. Sorry if I've offended anyone. Just sayin' it might help sales. Anybody else notice?

Yes, saw it and noticed and no I definitely don't watch the Q all day long. Someone who sells food products with close ups of his hands has to keep them as clean as possible.

That said, the man may have done some staining of furniture on his time off, who knows?

I didn't see but I can't get with dirty nails if that's what it was. Not with food handling. I don't generally pick people apart but that would bug me.

I wonder why the cooks and chefs don't wear gloves.

I help out at a soup kitchen, we have to wear aprons, gloves and hair nets.

I am not a basher, and do not join in posts focused on picking someone apart.

However, I do believe that any person who is demonstrating, and handling food in an on-air sales presentation, should pay close attention to their hands and nails. Regardless of who the person is, if their fingernails are dirty and the camera shows that while the person is pinching and pulling the food apart while the hosts, and others, are picking it up and tasting it, etc., that is just plain gross. Most of the female presenters have manicured nails that look nice during the food presentation, but I am surprised by the dirty nails on several of the male presenters. Since becoming a QVC shopper, I see how much attention is paid to the detailing in clothing, handbags, etc., so I am very surprised they are overlooking the dirty fingernails of presenters who are trying to sell food items. This issue is so easily solved by asking the presenter to wear plastic gloves. In my opinion, all food handlers should wear gloves---even on television.

I've never seen Chef Tony with dirty nails. It's usually the opposite; I've noticed that he has a manicure and his nails are polished with a clear polish.

I do understand what the OP is saying. Anyone demonstrating a cooking or food prep item, and any cook teaching a class should demonstrate hygiene by example. Clean hands & fingernails are part of that. I stopped watching New Jewish Cuisine years on PBS because Chef Jeff Nathan was so disgustingly unsanitary. He constantly dipped his fingers into foods then licked them to taste things, handled raw meats, and never once washed his hands. I can't believe he would dare to be so unsanitary in his own restaurant. If so, his kitchen should be shut down.

I have never seen his fingernails dirty or I of all people would have seen them. I am a stickler about that. Some food may stain his fingers when he works with them and that is why you thought they were dirty. I don't think the Q would allow it.

NOTHING is a bad as Wolfgang Puck as he cooks on HSN!! He does disgusting things on air and even tho I don't ever buy and don't watch anymore, its awful to watch. He snorts and coughs into a cloth and then uses the same cloth to wipe down the plates. Makes me shudder. Tastes things he cooks and then uses the same spoon to stir other things. Now I know none of that food gets sent to the customers but ....gross!!! Do we really know what goes on in any restaurant kitchen? I'm sure NO ONE would go out to dinner if they did. I don't!!!

So true! I watched someone wearing gloves supposedly as a hygienic precaution, then continually push her hair aside, and then handle the food, DISGUSTING!

I noticed also! At first I thought, "wow, his nails are kinda long..." and then saw some dirt under one of them. If the camera is going to be that close to your nails, they need to be impeccable. And I generally really like Chef Tony.

Everyone handling food even on tv should wear latex gloves and a hair net or cap to ensure the food is kept clean from germs, bacteria, and hair, especially since many people eat the edible prepared food after the televised shows.

As for Tony's nails if he does wood working and uses stains, it is possible he does not wear protective gloves so the stain can soak in under the nails and that is really difficult to remove, but again wearing latex gloves would be best so nothing can come in contact with the hands, and the food being prepared.
