We lived in Central Florida for 11 years. We loved Publix Supermarkets. Can't remember a store closing in all the years we lived there. The stores that I do remember closing were the Goodings Supermarket chain. Wish there was a Publix here in New England.

I was having a discussion with someone who moved to my area from Atlanta. We are finally getting a Publix store in our State. He told me that Publix opens stores and then closes them. Have any of you seen this? They tried to put one near where I live and the neighbors protested it, so it's going on the other side of town.

I have lived in the Atlanta area most of my life and in various parts of town. I've never seen a Publix close. They are an excellent market and their produce is always especially nice and fresh. Their closest competitor is Kroger and then Super Target and Walmart. I prefer to shop Publix than any other place. I believe you will like shopping there.

I was raised in Lakeland, FL, home of George Jenkins, founder of Publix. This is not true. Are you sure this person is not employed by a competitor? LOL. I know when they put a Publix in my neighborhood (2 miles from me), they had to blend into the surrounding area with their decor (brick type structure). As many stores as they have, I am sure they do their homework before opening up a store. I have never heard of this!!! Publix has a money back guarantee on everything in their stores. If they ring up the wrong item, and you point it out, that item is free. They have great benefits for their employees. Their customer service is top notch.

I live in the Atlanta area and we had two of them a mile apart. One of them did close after being open for about four years. There just wasn't enough population to support two stores in that area. With that being said, Publix is excellent and I don't shop anywhere else.

I have several Publix stores in my area and I have never seen one shut its doors. I find Kroger has better prices overall, but I go to Publix for fresh flowers. In my area, Publix continues to lower its flower prices to beat out Walmart and Kroger, so it's great for the customer!

Publix also has buy one, get one specials constantly, which is very nice when you want to stock up on something you use frequently.

I've been traveling down to the Orlando area frequently for 20 years now. If anything they have opened more stores and not closed any. Publix is excellent. The stores are always clean and well stocked. Great store brand items, excellent selections, best fresh produce and meats in the area. I wish they would open up here in MA.

I've lived and shopped in many FL's Publix for over 40 years and NEVER have I seen one close. In fact, I've seen plenty being renovated from small stores to much larger ones in strip malls. My daughters live in NC and they just got their first Publix near Durham. We're getting an Aldi's near us and already have a Walmart food store, Winn Dixie, BJs discount,Trader Joe's down the road and 2 Publix stores.Publix is the only place I can do my total shopping . We're due to get a new smaller Publix not even a 1/2 mile from my house. As for prices, I think they're fair. And, if you ever have a complaint, they are addressed immediately.

I live in a very small town just south of Sarasota, Fl and we have 2 Publix markets. Both are busy all the time. IMO - they do not have the best prices but they do have BOGOs every week so I shop at Winn Dixie and just go to Publix for the BOGOs or when they have a deal on gas gift cards.

I LOVE Publix! I wish we had their stores up north.

I have two near me that I use...a small one on the island where my beach place is, and then a larger one about 5 miles away (off the island) that I shop at when I'm looking for a bit larger selection of items. The store on the island is more expensive, but very convenient. I typically shop only for myself, so price isn't a big deal to me.

I use many of their store brand products for staples. Their deli has a great selection of store made salads and sides. The multigrain bread from the instore bakery is delicious. The only area where I think they could do better is fresh produce, particularly in the island store, but there are other places that I can get produce.

Publix is a great place to shop. The quality of the food is wonderful, and customer service is excellent. It is consistently ranked one of the best places to work and shop. Plus, it is employee-owned.

While I am sure this person thinks he knows what he is talking about, I would ask for examples. Can he provide consistent examples of this, or was it one store? Does he have an agenda? Does he just want to sound intelligent?

Seriously, what sort of fiscal sense would it make to do this? The store would be going bankrupt if they did this on a regular basis. Quite frankly, it sounds more like Winn Dixie than Publix.

The stores that closed in this area (Lee County) were smaller stores that gave way to larger and probably more energy efficient (etc.) stores. There were two near me, within around 5 miles, and two more that did the same thing further away to the north and south from me. Might be a "regional" thing. This area is growing and needs may change. Also the new stores they build are not stand alone stores. They build other units attached and lease them out to other smaller businesses like nail salons, pizza places, etc. That does make fiscal sense.

He is the owner of my nail salon and he was belligerent towards me. I told him how nice it would be to have one here, so that it competes with Harris Teeter. He told me that they are owned by employees and they close their stores right after they open them. All of your posts make so much sense to me. I asked him if he knew what stores I was talking about because I had only heard good things about Publix. He said I didn't know what I was talking about. Guess I won't be going there anymore. Nail salons are a dime a dozen here.
