If you consume Eggo or Aunt Jemima frozen waffles, please note that not listed, or listed with a different name, is an ingredient called "castoreum,' which is basically a molasses type of secretion from the an*al glands of a badger. It is used as a preservative in many, many foods and has been for at least 80 years. It is not used in European and other foreign countries, just here in the good old USA.

I suggest you google it so you can see what foods you may be eating on a regular basis that have this ingredient, but may not list it in their ingredients label. It is also in ice cream and hundreds of other products, probably half the food store.

I have two Eggo waffles every morning. They are low in calories and filling enough for me to be able to eat my second meal at around 4 PM. I don't use syrup on them (which also has this ingredient) but often put Smart Balance on them (not sure if it's in that product).

If that doesn't bother you, then fine, it's probably not going to harm you. However, I am going to try a different, organic brand of waffles (which I am sure will not taste as good, but I will try them).

I just saw this on Sanjay Gupta, MD's show on CNN this afternoon and then googled it.

I'm of the school of thought that if I've been eating something, enjoy it and it hasn't caused me any ill effect, I will continue to eat it even if it contains crushed beetles or filtrations of any sort.

By the way, I don't know what google results you read that told you this substance was in Eggo and Aunt Jemima waffles, I didn't find any such list. The product, castoreum, is expensive to obtain and is more likely found in perfume than inexpensive food products.

How gross. According to Snopes and other sources, it's not commonly used in vanilla flavoring, but it can be used as a flavor enhancer. If it's in your food it would probably be in the "natural flavors," which they don't have to list out. Creepy.

Now I gotta rethink the BBQ potato chips I like. Pretty sure they have natural flavoring. Don't even want to risk the possibility of eating beaver butt! Yuck! And the poor beaver!
