We've had a Food Saver for several years. I *finally* learned to wrap meats in Stretch Tite before trying to seal the bag. Otherwise, as several have mentioned, the juice interferes with the sealing.

I believe that's the one I'm waitlisted for. I wanted the platinum and that one was sold out. I'm not in a hurry, though. I'm glad you really like yours, as I hadn't heard much about that particular model and was hoping it was going to be okay.

Zip Lock Bags ALONE to freeze food never works - food has to first be wrapped in plastic wrap and then put in the zips.

There is a learning curve to the food saver (that you don't see in the demonstrations) - like beef - steaks with juice (blood) - you must first par-freeze the meat then then use the food saver or else you'll have juice squeezed out of the meat and the Saver will not/can not draw all the air out of the package....and you'll have a mess - and a useless FS bag.

Same for meatballs - I think they tell you that in demo. I have the smaller unit and love it!

Less bad food..............................

I am so happy we bought this food saver. I hope you get your food saver soon and you like your food saver as much as I love mine.

I have had one for several years and I love it. I never thought about using it for celery, I'll give that a try. We put cheese in one since I buy a large brick and it would mold before we could eat it all. The food saver keeps it fresh for quite a while.

With the new model do you have to freeze your meat a bit before sealing...the older models will pull the juice up the bag and then it will not seal...that would be reason enough for me to buy a new one.

I bought a small one to replace one I had years ago. Liking it so far. I think it will save me money. Years ago I used the food saver a lot and it really did keep items free of freezer burn for a long, long time.

I only pre freeze things that need to hold their shape, for steak etc. I just fold up some paper towel and fit in snug before vacuuming
