The only thing I could add to this is that the most expensive toasters I have purchased have been the worst overall for lasting. If I get a cheap toaster, it seems to last longer and work better than any expensive one I've tried.

I have a KitchenAid 2-slice toaster that is at least 15 years old, if not more. It toasts bread, bagels and muffins better than any I've ever had. It's one of those with one long wide slot. I don't know what I'll do if it ever bites the dust because I can't find that particular model anywhere. Of course, if I did find it, a new one probably wouldn't work as well as mine anyhow!

I have tried all kinds of toasters. Most toast one side very fast...or both sides in a reasonable time. I just spent a little extra on a 4 slice cuisanart toaster and love it! It's the first time I haven't had to turn the bread around half way through so both sides toasted.
