Kitchen rugs or mats?

Which do you prefer? I currently have scattered rugs in my kitchen but I'm thinking about getting mats. Rugs are getting expensive and I hear mats are easier on the legs.

I have the gel mats at my stove and sink and I have a Royal Palace rug at my island and one at the end of my kitchen leading in the the dining area. I couldn't make up my mind either. LOL

I have a Royal palace rug under my dining table and gel mats in front on my refrigerator, sink, & oven.

I can't stand rugs or mats in my kitchen. Just me, of course. It's a very personal thing. It just seems easier to keep clean without them.

Aside from the unbacked rug and memory foam bath mat I have under the dog's bowls, I don't have any other rugs or mats on the kitchen floor. Latex-backed throw rugs are bad for certain floors so I'm not risking it. Besides, I think rugs and mats would end up being more of a hassle. It's easy to sweep and mop a bare floor w/o needing to move and shake out the rugs.

When I had the kitchen remodeled a few years ago, I found a gorgeous, thick, wool rug at Homegoods during their semiannual sale. DH cut out the island piece so it fit around perfectly. (One section was indented so the small cut out section fit into the recessed area snugly). It's comfortable to stand on and wonderfully warm underfoot during the winter. The color is chocolate so stains don't show. The former one was floral taupe and stain "hid" in the pattern. They last for several years and give constant enjoyment. Hoe that gives you another option.

I'm surprised to learn that people have rugs or mats in their kitchen. I'd never have thought of such a thing. They sound dangerous and dirty, to me. Whatever kind of carpet I have in the rest of the house, my kitchen has always had a plain hard floor.

I have a gel mat at the kitchen sink because I stand there so much watching my bird and squirrel feeders, but I am going to break my neck one of these days because of it. It has a flat edge around the lower part of it and I have trimmed it and still catch my feet. Pretty stupid to keep it, but it feels so good to not be on hard tiles.

I have four Gel-Pro mats in my kitchen. I don't think a klutz like me would fare well with rugs on tile. But I really love the Gel-Pro mats. Three of mine are black so they go with everything.

I had rugs in front of the sink & stove & now have the gel mats which are easier on the legs since my kitchen floor is tile. I have a problem almost tripping over the gel mats so not sure it's a good idea for us to have them or not.

I really want a gel mat but I haven't purchased one yet. Currently, there's nothing at the stove, and I desperately need something. And at our sink I have a throw rug. That's it. Nothing that would truly help my back when cooking!

After reading one poster, it reminded me that I forget to add that I steam clean the Oriental carpet in the kitchen area.

But I do wear cushioned house slippers or flip flops; tile floors can be hard on feet.

We just replaced the rugs we'd had for 20 years! They were in front of the cook top and sink. We cook a LOT but are not messy. Once in awhile we'd get out the little green machine and clean them. I love the traditional look of "Persian" rugs!

I use gel mats in my kitchen in front of the sink and in front of the stove, I also added them to my utility room in front of my set tub. They are wonderful and great for your back and legs if you do a lot of standing.

I have Italian marble floors in my kitchen, and it gets slippery with even a drop of water on the floor....... I have already fallen more than once, and lost the skin off body parts, so I have a large rug in front of my sink, and a smaller one in front of my stove and refrigerator......I throw them in the washer/dryer, and with my LG front load, none of the backing is gone from them, even after 7 years........ I thought about the gel mats, but they are angled on the edges, so I bought a memory foam rug to go in front of my shower, with the same angle, and I am just not doing well with the edge......I have an ear disease, that means that I have dizzy problems 24/7, and it just really messes me up, as I have fallen over at work just sitting on the floor at work, going thru drawers of charts at work......I truly have dizzy issues, so with hoping to get the gel mats, they have the same type tapered edge, and now I am not thinking that the gel mats are of my best interest and medical health........

Tile floors with no rugs. I use a walker so do not need anything to trip me or block the walker. Good news is the walker has a seat so tile is easy on the feet when sitting.
