Dear Everyone,

Thanks so much for all your replies. I did steam some frozen broccoli last night in a pot with water and olive oil. Turned out just fine. I don't think I'll have a problem going without a microwave, but it does have the convenience factor. It's great for when I'm running late or just need to warm something up real quick. So I think I'll be shopping this week-end for a new microwave. Mine that dies was a GE and only lasted 8 years. I think I'll buy another brand like Sharp or Whirlpool.

Take care.

Hey everyone,

My microwave just dies this morning. It fizzes and cracks at the top of the inside. So I was wondering if there's anyone out there who gets by without using a microwave. If so, what are your suggestions? I have a lot of frozen veggies, so what do I do with them now? Should I steam them?

Thanks for your time!

you should buy a toaster or convection oven, so much better than a microwave. and yes, you can steam frozen vegetables.

I mostly use my microwave as a breadbox these days - microwaving changes the DNA of food.

You can steam frozen veggies, or heat them in a pot with a little bit of water. I got a small cast iron pot for melting chocolate and butter, and reheat food in the oven. People got along until 30 or so years ago without a microwave, so it's hardly a necessity.

Can't you just buy a new microwave? Like refigerators, stoves and televisions; microwaves are a very necessary part of life now. I don't know anyone who doesn't have one or would want to be without one. Ours died around this time last year and I had to go a WHOLE 6 days without one. And it was hard. Until then, I had no idea how often I just "popped" something into the micro. You can go old school and use your stove top, the oven the broiler. It will all come back to you. None of grew up with microwaves.

Examples of these are: x-rays, ultraviolet rays, gamma
radiation, and cosmic radiation. This is why humans should minimize
x-rays, wear protective spacesuits in space, and useon sunscreen whenin the sun-

There are hundreds of articles about the harmful effects of microwaves; a Google search will bring them up. Start here:

http://www.naturalnews.com/036224_genetic_disorders_DNA_electropollution.html

http://www.naturalnews.com/039404_microwave_ovens_vitamins_nutrients.html

http://www.naturalnews.com/030665_microwaved_food_cancer.html

http://www.naturalnews.com/022015_microwave_oven_power.html

Of course you'll find "scientific studies" that will tell you microwaving is safe, but as with all studies you need to look at who's funding them. It's perfectly legal for a company to perform hundreds of tests...and then choose the one whose results are closest to what they're trying to "prove."

Personally, I think taking a chance with your health just to save a few minutes is foolish, not when there are so many viable alternatives to cooking and even reheating food.

Microwaving food does NOT change its DNA. That is ridiculous. I suggest you look at where some of the info you linked as sources comes from. The Telegraph UK, The Future of things.com? I cannot believe you scoff at scientific research but will accept an article written by a guy (Chet Day) who is self employed and this is part of his write up on LinkedIn :Writes novels, stories, screenplays, essays, satire, parody, songs, and anything else that I feel compelled to throw words at.

Great Post Irishgrl! OP look at reviews & get the microwave you like. (:

http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/NaturalNews

NaturalNews.com (formerly Newstarget) is an anti-science conspiracy website founded by Mike "the Health Ranger" Adams.

The site promotes almost every sort of medical woo known to human history, though it specializes in vaccine denialism,[1] AIDS/HIV denial,[2] quack cancer medicine[3] and conspiracy theories about modern medicine.[4]

Even other quacks think it's a quack site.[5]

The site has recently broadened to include extreme environmentalism and conspiracy theorizing about O---- and gun control.

If you cite NaturalNews on any matter whatsoever, you are almost certainly wrong.

Thanks Irshgrl and Voyager for your excellent posts about Natural News. If you get your health news or any news for that matter from that source you are going to have a seriously warped view of Science and the world we live in. I hear the cuckoo clock going off in the background.

My microwave was moved to the laundry room, on top of the dryer, over 1 yr ago. I CHOOSE not to use it for anything other than heating my hot packs for my back. I have a stove and oven for cooking...what a novel idea...just like my grandma and mom did!! I have severe fibromyalgia and have decided to become as healthy as I can be. No more processed foods, only buy food made with NON-GMO's, organic produce, no dairy, occasionally buy grass-fed free range antibiotic free beef (2x month). I feel fantastic now and will never go back to eating as I did before! Clean eating is the only way to eat!

I wasn't trying to be argumentative but I fear people will read what she wrote and actually believe her when it doesn't have an ounce of truth to it. It is such a junk website that it is laughed at by anybody with any type of grip on science. She scoff at real scientific studies that are completely unbiased yet believes a quack like Mike Adams who has no credentials at all.

People are entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts and he couldn't be further off base with almost everything on his site. Natural News is a DANGEROUS site. It actually backs up the faked vaccine and autism study of Andrew Wakefield.

I am all for challenging mainstream media especially when there is some type of cover up but he uses absolutely no proof or real scientific evidence whatsoever and has no type of credentials. He is simply a quack.
