Does anyone here freeze unopened packages of bacon?

And if so, how long does it last once it is thawed? As long as if not frozen first, or do you have to use it up quicker if you freeze it? Thanks.

So many questions lol. It sounds like you only use a few slices at a time? Separate the package into smaller quantities to freeze.

I have frozen bacon before and it freezes very well. I usually freeze the whole package because I buy the smaller packages and its usually eaten before it needs to be frozen. I agree with the above poster. Freeze it in smaller amounts and just enough for a meal.

I don't freeze bacon, but I'm single and this is what I do with chicken breasts, packaged sausages, etc. I get them home and separate them into individual freezer zip bags and write the date on each bag before putting them into the freezer.

I freeze it because I don't eat it, and only have it around for guests' cooking. I'm a bit lazy - what I do is cut it cross-wise right through the package, then I have two halves. I put those in a Zip-loc freezer bag. That way I can easily use only half a pkg. (I will small-cut a half package for a pot of soup, for example, or for a stir fry.) I don't know officially, but I'd think it'd last as long once you defrost it as the non-frozen package. It does seem softer once thawed. - Bird

I freeze bacon all the time, and I will give you a way to freeze for only just a couple of pieces to use at a time........roll each strip of bacon and then freeze them in a zip loc bag or vacuum freeze, and then you can take out how ever many pieces that you want, reseal, and back to the freezer, and the rolled pieces thaw super quick, then cook however you want..........

I buy uncured bacon (pricey) and I freeze 3 strip portions in 5 Ziploc bags. I pull a bag out, thaw for about an hour, then cook the strips in the microwave.

I buy a box at Costco that contains three 1 lb pkgs of bacon....put one in a long, narrow lock n lock and the other 2 in the freezer....you don't have to use it up faster if you freeze it.

I freeze them all the time. Have no real idea if long term storage would cause a problem. I think it is one of those things that can be frozen for a long time.

Forrestwolf, I freeze bacon just like you do except I put 4 or 5 strips rolled up in it's own ziplock bag and when I need some I just pull a bag out which will last me for around a week. I used to have bacon go bad on me before I started freezing it.

I freeze bacon just as it comes from the store. When I take it out, it lasts just as long and is just as good as if I had never frozen it.

I freeze unopened packages of bacon all the time. I bought two packages on sale today & one went in the freezer. Packages that have been frozen last as long as those that have not been frozen.

I do freeze bacon in the package all the time. No problems at all.

I also cook a whole pack at one time and freeze the cooked leftovers.

Reheat in the micro with no problems.

Usually very fat meat should not be kept in the freezer a long time. I looked it up and here's what I found.

Lasts for weeks or months. (The USDA advises that frozen bacon loses quality after 1-2 months

I bought a package from local Costco. I think it came in an attached package of 2 instead of 3.

Anyway..... I bought it about a year ago, if not a little longer. When I got them home, I separate them into slices. I use the plastic wrap I got from Costco: lay one slice on the plastic, fold one side of the plastic over the bacon, lay another slice on top of it, then wrap the plastic over fold all 3 corners; each little package I make has 2 slices of bacon.

Well, I still have about a third of the bacon in the freezer. Um.... I don't think bacons are meant to last that long. They taste funny.

I always freeze bacon. I usually buy two or three packages at a time, so I keep one in the fridge and freeze the others. When the one in the fridge has about 4-5 slices left, I take the other out of the freezer and put in the fridge to give it time to thaw before use, usually a day or so. It typically takes our family about a week to use up a pound of bacon because we do not eat it every day.

We usually eat what bacon we freeze, but this might be an idea. When I buy peppers and smoke them on the grill I use a long roll of saran wrap and roll them up, adding a new pepper after the first one is covered and continue. Then I put that roll in a bag and freeze. 15 seconds in the micro way and I can easily pull the roll apart to remove what I need without thawing the whole bunch.
