Just received a Rachael Ray magazine that I didn't order

It was addressed to me - no idea how it landed in my mailbox. I didn't sign up for any subscriptions. Did anyone get one recently? I can't think of anything that it may have been included with because I usually try to uncheck those boxes if I order from somewhere that tries to throw in a "free" magazine.

I got one a while back, I called and explained that I didn't order it and didn't want any more copies. She said to keep the magazine and she would take my name off the mailing list.

You should be happy - at least it's a woman's magazine. I'm closing in on 80 and I just got two new magazines - CAR AND DRIVER, AND something I threw away about auto racing.

I have no idea how they got my name unless it was an April Fool's joke.

Yes, I recommend doing this. I had that happen with another magazine some time ago and did that because I didn't want them to suddenly charge my card without my knowledge. I figured out which business did it then, but I can't remember which one it is right now. I contacted them to complain, too.

Complain? Why bother - save your energy for something else. I received Martha Stewart for TWO YEARS (trying to get me to subscribe) and then Allure for a year and a few other non-remembers sprinkled in off/on. I just throw them in recycle bin.............do you purchase from Amazon or other many product websites? They aren't costing you anything so - just forget it.

If you get an invoice or notice a CC charge, just call and tell them you didn't order a subscription.

I worked for a company that published magazines and I now buy advertising...I get a TON of free magazines...my postal carrier must be cussing me out - I got 5 magazines yesterday alone!

Magazine circulation has been going down...they guarantee their advertisers a certain number of copies will be in circulation - or the advertisers can get a refund. So they will often send out free copies to not have to give rebates to companies.

Tanga told me that publishers often throw in additional subscriptions for free. I called them because I was getting Travel & Leisure and it was from the same publisher as something else I was getting (probably Bon Appetit or Saveur or something).

I also got Rachel Ray magazine about a year ago that I didn't order. However, it turned out that an elderly friend of mine, through some magazines that she got regularly, had an opportunity to send, free of charge, a years subscription of the magazine to a friend. She signed me up and then forgot to tell me until I mentioned I got a copy and then she remembered.

Maybe you have a friend who did something similar. Of course once the free year was up the magazine wants me to subscribe.

I would take them to the doctor's or dentist office on your next visit. Or even the salon. There will always be someone there that will read it. Better than some of the boring mags they usually have (I like Car and Driver though!).

Our local library has a trade table. You take in your magazines and you can pick one from the table for each one you bring in. There are always some really interesting magazines there so I like to use that service. I get to read a lot of different magazines just by continuing to exchange.

I have had that happen with a couple different magazines. I think it is a marketing ploy. They send you a few copies free and then ask you to ""renew"" your subscription hoping that you like it well enough to subscribe. Just enjoy the magazine and don't worry about it.

Beware the "renewal" subscription. Many magazines now are dong an automatic renewal - if you don't say no, they assume you mean yes, and extend you. I really dislike this system!

Magazine subscriptions are down and publishers frequently give away subscriptions with hopes that you'll renew. I got Good Housekeeping for a year, and now I'm getting Women's Health. No one has tried to charge my card.

Enjoy them! I would consider them a gift and don't worry, you only have to pay if you choose to renew.

If you think you've been subscribed to something you don't want simply log on to their website and unsubscribe. As long as you have your address label you can do this yourself. If its free? Enjoy! I never pay for any of my magazine subscriptions anymore. I get them free. I follow many freebie sites and save a LOT of money all the time!

I just got one from All Recipes yesterday. I never asked for it. Guess they are trying to get subscriptions. It was a little pricey for a year. I will just go on line at their site if I am looking for a certain recipe.

I recently starting getting copies of Ladies Home Journal in the mail

I called the LHJ 800# and they said it was complimentary. I told them to stop it and they directed me to a website that I had to request to stop the mag from coming. The website indicated they got my name & address from ShoeBuy dot com. I purchased ONE pair of shoes from that site. I was furious! This was not a gwp or trial included purchase!

They assured me that they didn't have cc info but I stopped the subscription. If ShoeBuy passed along my name & addy and signed me up, who's to say there was no cc info passed to them?

I've seen the other channel offer Lucky and I believe Glamour as your 'gift' with purchase. I'm sure cc info may be passed on eventually.

My mom keeps getting magazines all of time, here at my house, and she never lived here, and she did not subscribe to the magazines, as she died 5 years ago.........SO........what are they going to do to HER..........turn her over to a collection agency.......... I just let them keep coming, and I read them and take them to work where a co-worker takes them to a mental health facility where she works on her off days from the prison........ I am just glad they are enjoyable magazines........
