And I'm half Polish myself!

We had such wonderful Polish bakeries and delis up north, I miss the pierogies!!

Not to forget the potato pancakes and apple fritters, and those pork chops baked with sauerkraut.

I did know there is a 'Paczki Day' because I'm half Polish, and originally from a Polish area in NJ.

Moved down South and forgot what day it was! LOL

Sorry but I had never heard of Paczki until my apartment complex office sent out a email this afternoon inviting residents to stop by and pick up a Paczki to celebrate Paczki Day. I went online to see what they are and it said they are Jam-filled donuts filled with preserves and often have a small amt of alcohol like vodka to prevent them from absorbing too much oil during frying.

They sound delicious but being diabetic it's a easy pass for me. I had never heard of putting vodka in a donut ! To everyone having a Paczki, enjoy that special treat !!

I read online that it's a way to use up rich ingredients from the pantry like eggs, butter and sugar etc before Lent starts which of course is the season of fasting. It's a tradition rooted in the Polish Catholic history.

I got 'em! My hubs went grocery shopping and bought the last 2 Boston Cream paczki's.

There's a bakery with a small breakfast diner attached about 30 minutes from us. The owner is a Paczki master. Businesses and individuals from all over the region order from him. DH and I used to go for breakfast numerous times during "Paczki Season" (the bakery would extend it beyond Easter). I haven't had one since 2019 after I gave up sugar and refined carbs. I can't imagine eating one now.

The Polish Bakery in the next town from us in NJ has been there for decades -

Their specialty is of course the jam and cream filled paczkis, but they had brandy cake (out of this world), rice cake, and apricot jam filled sour cream kolaczkis (twists).

I had to stop going there every week, though they also had the best rye bread around. Nothing like the supermarket junk!

Oh I could!

Been total keto for only 1.5 years and would SO dive into one! Maybe with time the desire would pass? LOL But certainly not yet!

I'll just enjoy watching all the promos on TV.

It's a big deal in the Western NY area. (Buffalo)
