Packing up my tiny kitchen to move

Today is the day!!! Having packers come to pack up my kitchen--am moving to my new place tomorrow---will be interesting to see how they will do it. Decided that the $500 was well worth it. My kitchen is a tiny closet sized affair so not alot of storage---HOWEVER...I have managed to cram it full. Have racks I used for vertical space too. got all the boxes and assorted padding stuff. but---already took the table and chairs to the new place----so will have to pack stuff on the floor----

I HATE MOVING!!!!

@Hoovermom --wellll..........I question my decision and sanity many times a day these last few months over this journey from h3ll!!! excitement is not one yet. Won't let myself think about it ----sooo much still to do. Our lease is up on the 31st when we turn over the keys. Will be back to clean and move the rest of the stuff--hopefully the movers are well versed in the art of Tetris!!!😬

Ugh. I would NEVER let anyone pack up my kitchen. I'm a very hands-on person, especially when it comes to moving. We've moved several times and I boxed and labeled everything myself. I find it creepy having strangers touching all of my stuff.

I last moved 32 years ago . Packed all the items myself, except had lovcal movers haul all my large pieces of furniture for me. Bought the movers all lunch and it was worth paying them . I have boxes in my basement that I never unpacked . Been digging some old nick nacks out to donate . It's realy a pain to move , however that's just life.

I hope you are never forced to have to have help and people touching your stuff because of physical limitations. Its just stuff.

Four years ago, I could pack anything myself but after having compression fractures in my spine after a fall....I can't no longer do that kind of activity. Its humbling.

I believe @wagirl has been fighting courageously through some physical challenges, moving is hard enough without the extra challenge. I hope she gets all the help she can.

I can't say I envy you, @wagirl. The thought of moving overwhelms me. Hopefully you'll love your new place and make it a home you can stay in for a long time. Post some pictures once you're settled.

Like you, EVERY time I moved, I did it myself or had a friend help me pack and label boxes. I would NEVER have people I don't know handling my possessions.

@wagirl I so feel your pain! Our move to Washington is a few weeks away and I am so sick of packing and the anxiety of moving 3 dogs and aging parents so many miles away.

Wow @Puggywuggy that is a lot to take on. I hope you are a mega-planner type. Its not something that can just be " winged" as I'm sure you know. Im wishing uou much Organization Wisdom and Strength to you!

I've moved way too many times the last 8 years so I feel for you. I had the moving company help me when I moved from DE back to NY. It was $$ well spent.

Wishing you & your daughter a safe & not too stressful move. Remember, you don't have to unpack and put every every little thing away the first day! Don't make yourself any more crazy than needed!

@LizzieInSRQ Thank you so much. It has been in the works for several months. We are moving to be near our son for health reasons. Sometimes life throws us a curve and we have to pivot unexpectedly. Anyway, I digress...thank you again for the well wishes., they are greatly appreciated! ❤️

Well the big day has finally arrived. Yes. you hate the movimg part, especially the kitchen...double ugh, but in the long run, it will be like an adventure for you and DD.

@ID2—-creepy??? No way was it creepy at all. It was fantastic in fact!! I’ve moved 5x in the last five years and the kitchen is the worst to pack up. Those guys had it packed in 2 hours. I got alot more done too.

To update---am all moved into my new apt. and the pack up for my kitchen went smoothy and pretty fast. However---being guys that are movers and packers only --they didn't lable what was going into each box except for ---kitchen. Have not found my herbs/spices. and man alive--those boxes are freaking heavy to move----have a few still to uncover. But everything was wrapped up and protected very well and found nothing broken so far. I am over all, happy with having that done tho. So would I do this again---I think so, only will know what to have them do so it makes it easier to know what is in the boxes.

Finally--am seeing some progress in getting my kitchen in my new apt in order---had a spurt of energy on Sunday and figured out where and what was going into the cabinets--we actually cooked in it last night!!! And have discovered that alot of the boxes I marked for the apartment--should have gone to storage---no wonder there are sooo many boxes -----did not do as well as I thought I had in marking stuff to go to storage without opening them up first---that will be this years project----sorting and donating----but not until the weather is better---near summer time.
