Kuhn Rikon Shears

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I searched and didn't see anything recent. Aren't the Kuhn Rikon Kitchen Shears normally out by now? I know the multiple presentations can be a little much, but I'm hoping they are the good version with the good lock this time. I like to have them on hand for Christmas gifts and I have also given them as hostess gifts with good response.

Just hoping they haven't been discontinued. I know i can get them on eBay, but I like to get the sets from here. Has anyone heard or seen anything on these? Thanks.

@LoveMeSomeQVC - I also buy the shears every year. I checked my records, and if the timing stays the same as in previous years, the sets should be appearing within the next two weeks (my earliest purchase was on 10/14, but that was back in 2019).

I have been looking for them also on Sundays on ITKWD. I recall last year that Mark Micelli said they only come out in October. I’m assuming they will be on one of the ITKWD shows coming up in the next few weeks. I have a set of four I bought a few years ago which still work great, but I want to get another set since they’re hard to obtain.

I bought them the last two years. Gave several as gifts but found another new pair. I know i use a pair from probably 10 years ago. (Because they have different handles). Years ago you got 5. I think last year were 3 sets. One of my favorite QVC purchases.

I still own my original pair from about 10-12 years ago...still work great! Best shears I've ever used. I use them in the kitchen and all around the house, also gardening. Love them. I wonder, those of you looking for new ones...doesn't Amazon carry them too? I thought they did, because one time I was looking for some for a friend, when I needed immediate delivery, and thought I saw them there.

Amazon does carry them. They cost about $26 a pair.I've still got a couple of my original ones, as well as a few that were part of gift sets that I bought years ago. In addition to using them in the kitchen, I keep a pair with my gardening tools.

What is so great about these Kuhn Rikon shears? They look more like for the garden, not kitchen.

I've heard of them, maybe I should start buying some. What do you like about them? TIA

They work fantastic in the garden, will cut through the toughest branches, etc. As well as the kitchen, opening those tough plastic sealed packages, all kinds of things.

Proof of this....we house sit for a week, every summer, for DIL...and they look forward to me deadheading their garden flowers. One year I had the most frustrating time using their standard gardening clippers. I went locally to try to find a new pair for them....better but not great like mine, but the only ones I could find at the local garden center. The following year I made sure to bring my Kuhn Rikon's with me....world of difference, and did the job in less than half the time, with my hand not aching when I was done!

So yes....they are just sharp, clean cuts, strong, last long, don't dull easily...like I said, mine are at least 10 years old, and I've never sharpened them...still cut like when they were new. Don't rust either...stainless steel. Worth every penny.

Amazed, when I looked, that there is nothing even close to these in the garden stores. I guess because they all carry the standard gardening clippers style, vs. these, that are marketed as "kitchen sheers"...but happen to work better in the garden than the usual garden type clipper!

@rockygems123 - I'm actually still using one of the original shears I bought a decade or so ago; they really work well. I use the shears in various areas around the house and yard, so I have a few pairs in action at any given time. I buy additional sets for gifts or when they change the design just to see what the difference may be. I don't really have a "gift closet," but I do have several pairs of shears stocked up for future needs.

When my mother passed away, my brother, sister and I were cleaning out her house. We were donating most things. We came across 3 of these knives, unopened. All of us immediately said "I want one".

These shears can be used for everything. I use them to spatchcock chickens, cut up sausage, cut up vegetables, They are great for cutting anything. I hardly use a knife for anything. I even use them to cut medicine containers that you cant open. They are also good for cutting cardboard. They are so useful and I just love them.

@rockygems123. UMy shears don't last long. They get dull very fast and rust with the slightest moisture. I've gone through tons of them. I always assign one pair just for cutting dog hair from unsavory places and one pair just for kitchen use. The seem to be cheaply made, yet I keep buying them because there nothing else similar.

My shears are the originals and still going strong. I call them my magic scissors. I have several for outside and inside use and even keep one in my car's emergency tool kit.

A question for those that have the newer versions that also had the originals--do you find a difference in how they work, particularly the ones with the big springs?

I still have two or three of the originals that have been tucked away for years, hidden from family members to whom I've previously gifted shears but they want more. I'm unsure how the newer versions would compare.

OG Poster here. Thank you all for the responses! I now know we have a team of people who love the shears as I do and will post if they see them become available.

I, too have some of the originals I purchased and some from later on. I keep a pair in my glove box, kitchen and garage. I have arthritis, so they come in very handy cutting steak and chicken. My husband uses them in the garden. One year at Christmas, I gave them as stocking stuffers and they came in very handy to open up any clam shell packaging from gifts and batteries that morning. Everyone seems so pleased when I gift them and as I mentioned in my first post, they are a good, unique hostess gift.

@Marp The originals were the best and they have varied from that a couple of times and those were not good versions - there was one version that locked at the bottom and they were terrible - broke if you put any pressure on them. The last couple of years they have gotten back to the lock up at the spring and while not exactly the originals at least a little closer and I've had good luck with them. The handles do seem to change from time to time, but nothing that has impacted the use for me. I just wish they were still a set of four and not three - but you know, shrinkflation! It will be interesting to see what version comes out this year.

They do have the shears available on the Kuhn Rikon website, and as of a few days ago their site had a discount code for I think 25% off.

HSN has a version of their Sous Chef brand, item # 873-102. I think it was two pair for $19.99.

I've done the same with Sabatier shears lol, the ones that come apart for cleaning.

If they offer omething new I may buy a new set and I have a few stashed to give to others.
