PASTA POT?

I'd like a recommendation for a "pasta pot". I'd like the type where you can take the strainer insert 1/2 way out and lean it against the rim of the pot to remove the pasta leaving the good starchy water behind to add to sauces.

The pot I have now has holes in the lid to strain the water into the sink.

I've seen what I'm looking for on Italian cooking shows, but they never give the brand. TIA.

I got one as part of a Wolfgang Puck set years ago. TBH, I didn't like using the insert in the pot. It came with two inserts, a full-size and a half-size. I just use the half-sized one to drain my pasta. The half-sized insert is probably meant for steaming which I never do.

Actually, if I remember, I just use the Fasta Pasta now. Uses less water and you don't have to wait for the pt to come to a boil.

I have an 8 qt. All clad like that and never use it. It is hard to wrestle out of the pot (taller pot) and you have to have it in the sink, then where do you put the outer pot etc.

I love my All Clad strainer pot with the holes in the locking lid! I use it to wash and drain lettuce and other things, pasta etc. Then you don't have that dripping hot inner liner to deal with. Just a thought.

I have a Viking pasta pot with the strainer insert. Frankly, I prefer to fish the pasta out of the boiling water with a "spider".

It's much easer to reserve the pasta water using the spider. When using the pot with the insert you still have to dump pasta water in order to tilt the insert for draining. If you don't, the pasta will be sitting in the insert while it is still in the water.
