The same store was selling single 10oz steaks for $10.

Rastelli steaks are sold locally and they are around $9 to $10 each on sale and about $14 each at regular price.

Today, I went grocery shopping and wanted to get a few hamburgers. They were $9.99 a lb formed and ready.

Nevermind. I will just thaw out what I have in the freezer and form my own. I can usually get good burger for around $5 to $6 a lb on sale.

Beef is high right now and so is chicken. Pork can still be found at reasonable prices though.

I was in NJ this month for two weeks. Their grocery prices were high for everything. Much higher than PA.

NY very similar to NJ. The most affordable meat has been pork for several months now in addition to ground turkey that we buy frequently. I use them for meatballs (sorry to my Nonna and Mom) but ground beef here has been very high. Chicken I buy only on sale. Shop Rite had the cheapest skinless and boneless chicken breast at $2.99 for a week. I need to get a second freezer.

Lord, have mercy !! I called the meat dept. of my local grocery store and told them to have me 2 THIN CUT

T-BONES and I would pick up Thursday. Last 2 I bought just few weeks ago was 10.20. Well, I went

into deep shock when I picked up the 2 today !

Almost 28.00 !!!!!!!! and this is just for 1/2 IN. thick !!

Nothing big or thick or fancy. I said "no, thanks" and

hit the door. Some small beef roasts were 25-30

So, I went to another store and had them to cut me just 1 and said 1/2 in thick. It was almost 13. I took it and said to self make 2 meals out of that.

good thing I prefer chicken and turkey. How do people who have families feed them ? I'm a widow no kids or grandkids. If I did they would be eating hot dogs.

Ridiculous. Don't even ask about Porterhouse steaks

that's what I thought they gave me. No telling what they would had been 35.00 I guess.

Unbelievable !!

You really have to shop the sales and go with what is on special. Our best bet is usually ground beef. We only make beef once or twice a month, so it's not too bad.

My DD is very lucky, because her husband and boys are hunters, and they average 5 deer per year. They also raise black Angus and harvest one each year and split it with her husband's brother. We sometimes get some of the deer meat and beef, and we are very greatful.

We get our beef from a local rancher here in Colorado. Prices are no where near the grocery stores or butcher shops. Much better quality, organic, grass fed. Haven't had store bought meat in years. It's just the 2 of us so we only buy a quarter. If I still had kids at home, I'd buy a half. Only way to eat well.

I was shell shocked at my produce prices over this past weekend.

A bag of baby carrots for $3.50? And a bag of Granny Smith apples for over $7.00?

Are we kidding? God bless Walmart where I can still find $1.50 and $4 respectively.

I gave up ground turkey a while ago ($5) and most meats since I cannot afford it.

Luckily I am not a huge meat eater.

Unless I hit the random sale, I've made the bread and butter prison menu chic again.

I break out with the occasional roast potato and vegetables from time to time and I still have my staple pasta, but, if I really want to get crazy, I break open a can of beans and make a chili.

It's like fine dining at Chez Laura.

Most cattlemen rejected te vaxx buthose who sell beef on the hoof at auction to commercial processors must. Initially when this was challenged over the years, we were told there is a holding period where livestock could not be butchered for human food claiming the mRNA didn't remain in the flesh past a few days. We learned this week that was a lie. I haven't bought commercially slaughtered beef/pork for over 5 yrs but this past year our local slaughterhouse lost it's FDA certification where we could buy slaughtered me a smaller cattleman would put up for sale. Not because they have hygiene/sanitation issues but because they didn't opt for the frequent inspections that slaughterhouses now pay for. I raise my own poultry - eggs and meat, buy pork from the local Mennonite Community but with the slaughterhouse out of the picture, it's pretty hard to find available locally raised beef.

Since I live a carnivore lifesyle 100% of the time and DH lives it 5 of 7 days a week, meat is our main staple food in our home.

We get awesome deals at Costco. DH buys 15-20 lb loins all the time...ribeye, NY strip, chuck and brisket. And, he'll also get 8-10 lb slabs of lamb too when it's available...LOVE lamb!

Anyway, he'll bring them home and cut them up into 14-18 oz steaks. Then he'll put them in freezer bags/vacuum pack them.

The brisket he'll cut into 2-3 pieces depending on the size to smoke when we have it.

Most of our seafood/fish we also get at Costco.

As for 80/20 ground beef, we'll get it at Hyvee, Super Saver or Walmart when we run low to stock up again.

There doesn't seem to be any relief in sight on meat, coffee and grocery prices rising either. Beef and veal prices are up 13.9% from last year, while fresh fruits and vegetables prices are rising at a record rate.. Tomato prices rose 4.5% last month, lettuce 3.5% and bananas 2.1%, the CPI shows. Overall, fresh vegetable prices climbed 3.0% in August, the largest monthly increase since 2020 . Coffee, hold on to your hats, is up 20.9% from Aug. 2024 to Aug. 2025.

How can that possibly be when we're being told repeatedly that inflation is way down and everything in the economy is hunky dory!

I have only been buying ground beef.

Two weeks ago Stop & Shop advertized sirloin steak tips for

$8.99. That was better than when I have seen them as high as

$14.99 per pound. So I went to get some and the case was empty

early in the day on first day of sale. I buy grass fed & grass finished beef at Aldi, today they had a several New York strip & rib eye steaks marked half off...they're in my freezer.

We eat basic and we don't eat three times a day. We don't eat traditional cereals, breads, cookies, donuts, cakes, freezer waffles, chips, etc. We are blessed to be able to buy what we want but I do my best to get the best prices possible. The last time I bought ribeyes they were around $15/lb. Boneless skinless chicken breast were $2.99/lb. Boneless pork loin chops were very affordable. We have a chest freezer and a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer in our garage. Spring thru fall, I keep both freezers well stocked and the fridge side holds extra eggs, heavy cream, cheese, yogurt, etc.. We only use the side-by-side spring thru fall, it's empty during the winter. We get our bacon, sausages, steaks, boneless skinless chicken breasts, pork chops, and frozen veggies and frozen berries, some fresh produce at Costco. I've ordered Alaskan wild caught salmon from the Costco website a couple of times. It's pricey. I don't make it often so it lasts a long time. Grassfed ground beef from Aldi, around $5.50 or $6/lb.. Yogurt, heavy cream, and pasture raised eggs come from Sam's Club. When our DS visits, sometimes he'll shop from our freezer. We don't mind in the least. When I make dinner on the days he visits, I make more than necessary and send the leftovers with him, to help offset their grocery bill a little.
