Pecan Pie…I don’t usually comment

Full confession, I don't usually make any negative comments about the food QVC sells, or the price. I buy numerous items for my household and to send as gifts.

But I had to admit I was taken aback when I saw the Pioneer Woman Pecan Pie #M137545. It wasn't so much the price of $54, but the look of the quality. I know the prices of pies from Goldbelly.

Now of course I haven't tasted it, but I know what I look for in a pecan pie. Which by the way what I find to be one of the easiest pies to make, especially using Pillsbury pie crust. I also acknowledge not everyone cooks or bakes so I do understand and appreciate QVC featuring food products.

What I don't want in a pie are cheaper chopped nuts. Fine if making tassies, but not in a pie. And I don't want what appears to be more than what I consider usual amount of filling to nuts ratio. Way too much of the cheaper ingredients filling to the pecan topping.

I don't know how many have purchased from Savannah's Candy Kitchen when they've been featured, but I've enjoyed everything I had from this company. Their pie is $29 and they have in the past had deals on buying two.

I applaud QVC for bringing in new vendors, but from the clothes to the food I'm just not impressed with Ree's products.

$54 for a pie is absurd. I know most of Q's food is overpriced, but this pie takes the cake.

The price includes shipping in a styrofoam container and dry ice in addition to mailing fees. Factor that in.

@Etoile308. I agree pecan is the easiest of pies to make. Just dump everything together and bake. I prefer broken nuts because pecan halves are so hard to cut. Considering the price of nuts and the shipping charges, a price in the $50 range doesn't seem excessive for a big, full pie.

@Q-Checker - but it says on the screen that shipping is "free," when it used to say "S&H included." Most of us know better.

@Etoile308 I feel the same way. I saw $54.00 for a pecan pie?? I thought to myself.....well that better be outstanding. I bake all my own deserts from scratch and it doesn't cost anywhere near this to make a fabulous pie.

@Etoile308 you aren't wrong. It's too much to pay, but for those of us who don't have time or ingredients on hand for pie baking...maybe we cave.

Where I live in the northeast, I don't think I've ever seen a pecan pie for sale. My grandmother used to make them. Have always loved them!

Price crazy. I have two bakeries and a Wegmans bakery that is superb. Much better prices. I thought the Q pie filling looked too runny. I like a more solid pecan pie.

Both advance orders were called a sell,out, so I guess people were ordering. Possible using Bill to Ship to, and you couldn't buy a pie and ship for any less in my opinion.

@Etoile308 My husband has won blue ribbons for his pecan pies. They are just regular pecan pies, he makes the crust and if all we have is pecan halves, we always chop them.

We think the crust browns more evenly and is easier to cut and eat with the chopped nuts. I'll say I grew up with the best pecans--little native pecans crisp and tasty, fresh, not soft like those big paper shell pecans. And danged hard to pick out too!!!!

To each their own, but all our pies have to have chopped nuts on top. Most people like pecan pie better than I do. My mom made hundreds of them, batches for church and school bake sales, gifts and for us. Think I got burned out on them. Then I married someone absolutely nuts (pun intended!) about them.

I remember once every flat surface, sofa and chair in the living room covered with pecan pies for some event.

I love pecan pie - been buying one every Thanksgiving for years from a

coal bakery. I've bought them from Walmart too and they've been delicious. I'm from the northeast.

I tried the Savannah pecan tarts and thought they were terrible. Very dry and greasy crust.

the shipping and handling and 100% money back guarantee is built into the price. it is expensive to ship things these days, especially items that require special shipping and handling. dont like it? you get all your money back.

i dont want whole or half pecans in my pecan pie. i prefer them to be chopped up. that is just my preference.

i make a great "pecan torte" that is very light and always a hit during the holidays. chopped pecans, egg whites, ritz crackers, sugar, whipping cream. no crust. delicious. it is an old recipe from at least the 1970s.

not everyone is a great baker. not everyone even wants to bake. not everyone has a store near them that makes delicious pecan pies. some want to be able to ship a pie to their hostess OR want something special to celebrate the holidays. this is a nice option.

I'm guessing most of the special treats like. Pecan pies are ordered and shipped as gifts. Don't foget the pies must be shipped frozen which requires 2nd Day Air, which is very expensive. It would be impractical for an individual to bake a pie, freeze it, obtain dry ice and find a suitable shipping container, then take it to a shipper.
